Who makes a good quality camo for a good price? I can't really afford a set of Sitka gear, or Under Armour etc... I have good base layers with oder control, I'm just looking for a pair of pants and jacket for bowhunting that is quiet, I can crawl and stalk in and isn't too bulky and will last. Been looking at Kings Outdoor camo, but I don't know. Any help would be great!!!

If you're really broke, you don't really need camo. Camo is so the hunter can feel good, and maybe hide better from other hunters. Go to an army surplus or even yard sales. You can buy light weight wool pants at D.I. stores for almost free. They're not camo but they are wool. Any dull color or plaid combination will help break up your outline. Look online KSL or others for good deals on used camo. There are lots of good deals out there.

I killed bulls for years in a pair of Lee 88's and a Fratzke Winona camo sweater.

"Progressed" to a cpl tupperware tubs full of Walmart and Cabelas cotton and mesh camo. Still killed bulls.

Sitka now. Yes there is a significant difference between the old stuff and the new technical gear but if you can't afford it, get the cheap stuff.

Cabellas Micro-tex in outfitter camo is hard to beat, quiet, dries quick, wears good. Look in the bargain basement. I got some Kings and it is great stuff too.I have wool too, some from surplus stores.Just don't wear blue, its one color elk and deer can see. I know I'll get flack from the blue jean folks ,but I can always hear them a mile away. Carhart brown stuff in the desert works, but it wicks up when raining and doesn't dry fast.

I have lots of Kings Camo, because it is fairly cheap and I had a friend work there. It works good, the mountain and desert shadow are the patterns I wear. For Alpine early season bow hunting, my favorite pattern is the Predator green camo. Little more expensive, but works great in the early season high country.

Cabelas micro-tex is likely THE best you can get for the price! I use Sitka a lot and usually get it on sale. When I don't use Sitka I usually wear micro-tex. The Micro-tex comes in a couple different thickness. As posted above it wears like iron and dries super quick. The heavier micro-tex is also pretty darn warm but breathes well. Hopefully they changed the cargo pockets on the pants because it was in a bad place on the old ones.

+1 on the micro-tek stuff, I have a set of the light and the regular. I will purchase another regular set for my AK trip in september. Seems indestructable, and dries almost instantly, good wind protection too.

Another microtex fan. It gets better as it ages.

Treat it with that "Nikiwax softshell pruf" and its pretty water resistant [up to a point]

Another microtex fan here, I couple the microtex with their outfitter wool outer garmets both in the outfitter cammo pattern, which I thimk is one of the most versitle patterns around.

Buy used gear. Lots of hunters are gear freaks and like to try new stuff or upgrade to the latest/greatest. I've seen many posts on this forum and others from people spending $1,000's on the new KUIU gear...and most likely their old stuff (that they bought last year) will end up for sale on a hunting forum.

I also have Microtex in outfitters camo, but I never buy an outfit based on what camo pattern. I buy for the function of the garment and buy on sale/clearance. Decide what material/function you want, then look for a sale and buy whatever camo patten is on sale. The animals won't know the difference.

If money is the big issue I would suggest REI polypro base layers, Cabelas Mictrotex pants and shirt in Outfitter and Cabelas MTO50 Quiet Pack jacket and pants/bibs in Outfitter for your shell. Depending on the situation you may also need a good synthetic puffy insualtion jacket to wear under the shell.

A little dated and not cutting edge but realtively inexepensive, functional, quiet and dependable.

Besides the Micro-tex , I use the Cabellas Berber Fleece as warmth layer, also in outfitter camo. The vest is warn all the time as core warmth and Wind- shear pants and hooded jacket, very warm stuff and lite.A little bulky packing but great stuff. Kings Mountain Parka I have is great also. Cabellas Rain-suede is my light rain gear.

I use both Kings and microtex. Both are good but the microtex will hold stickers and burs more than the Kings pro hunter pants.

I agree with you about the stickers on Micro-tex,and they are way worse on the Berber Fleece. When I lived in CA my gear would be just filled with them. Foxtails where even worse than the burrs.Luckily here in NM where I live there is not near as many sticker type weeds, and they are less dense. The Kings gear seem to shed them better.

@3Rayz: here is the best deal I could find for good quality and affordable camos. The pants are about $25 and the shirt is around $22. They're both made by Outfitter Tuff. If you search around a bit on the site you can also find links to other accessories like camo gloves by the same maker. Good luck.
