At the risk of starting another "favorite" thread, I cautiously ask;
What was your favorite piece of hunting gear you picked up this year?

It isn't ground breaking but I picked up a Western Mountaineering Badger sleeping bag. I have wider shoulders and it is definitely more comfortable to sleep in than my other bags. I think I sleep warmer, because I don't compress the loft. Plus it only weighs 2lbs 6oz. Not too shabby for a 10 degree bag.

i've got five items that i bought this year, used the hell out of and loved! couldn't pick just one.

eberlestock j34 pack
garmin oregon 550t gps (got the hunting gps map sd card)
havalon piranta knife
petzl tika 2 headlamp
t.a.g. game bags

not a bad thing to say about any of these products. they all worked as advertised.

>KUIU Attack Pants with thigh vents.

BeanMan, are they worth the money? I have a hard time spending that kind of money on some pants that I know I am going to thrash. What swayed you to go KUIU?

Jetboil SOL.

and Kuiu is worth the money...I have the old Sitka Mountain pant and the new attack and I love them both but Kuiu gets a slight nod.

My favorite hunts are because they were with friends and family not just because "I got one".

Tank,

I think they are worth the money. The thigh vents, only found on the verde camo line, are really great. I also have the Sitka Ascent pants and I like the KUIU better. The seam in the crotch of the Sitka pant has come apart twice. The 4 way stretch fabric of both is the cats meow.

I get tired of pumping over a gallon of water each day when backpacking so I got a new system... It's great, just scoop water and go, no wasting time pumping...

Hey guys, you need to tell us why your items made the top of your list. We have to have a reason to buy them, and someone to blame it on when we tell the wife...

Oregon 450 T gps with sd card for Wyoming.

The gps was easy to operate and just kept getting me back to camp every time no matter how deep in the woods we were or how bad the weather was and the WY sd card let you know who's land you were on at all times.

ok. reasons below.

eberlestock j34 pack - efficient, comfortable, well built/constructed. packed a lot of weight (meat/gear/rifle) w/out any problems. pack is heavy, but if you adjust the straps properly and get the weight on your hips you don't get "pack" tired/sore. love the built in scabbard for hiking.

garmin oregon 550t gps (got the hunting gps map sd card)- extremely simple to use. lots of features. touchpad makes it quick. built in digital camera makes it nice to be able to attach photos to your waypoints.

havalon piranta knife - scary sharp blades. made cutting up the critters a breeze. only broke one blade and it was my fault. great customer service. i tore it down after the hunt to clean and lost one of the tiny teflon washers. called havalon to see how much they were. they DONT replace parts. said send it in and they'll ship me a new knife.

petzl tika 2 headlamp - extremely bright, lightweight and most importantly, comfortable.

t.a.g. game bags - very lightweight, packable bags. a lot tougher than they appear they would be. one cycle thru the washer (small amount of bleach added) and they look almost brand new. i've heard great things about the customer service too, as far as replacing torn bags, regardless of fault. can't personally confirm this though.

1. Leica LRF

2. Kennetrek 400gr Mountain Extreme

3. Marmot Helium 15deg down bag

Gonna try some First Lite Wool in 2013.

Hunting gps maps, and a garmin 62 st GPS. Reliable, accurate, durable.....need i say more. It's changed the way I hunt.

Mystery Ranch 6500. Have used this pack to pack out 1 deer, 2 sheep, 2 alaskan moose, and a grizzly. When it comes to hauling heavy loads this pack is head and shoulders better than my eberlstock and badlands.

Hilleberg Allak 2 man Tent. Durable, light and excellent design. I'm not sure there is a better built tent, than a Hilleberg.

I know this sounds stupid, but I have a strange love for my KUIU Guide Vest. I have tons of KUIU, Sitka, First Lite, etc. gear, but there is something about that stupid vest that is awesome. Warmth, fit, size, weight... everything is awesome.

I almost didn't buy it because I never thought I'd use it. But it gets used more than any other single piece of gear I own. Period.

I will spend a small fortune on expensive gear and its the $99 vest that I love the most. Go figure.
