Looking for a tent

Ok so need a 3 person 4 season tent, may consider 3 season. Want to keep it under $400. I'd like something lighterweight as I may back pack it in somewhere. I am not fond of a floorless because of snaked and bugs where I live and hunt. What do you suggest?

Take a look at SeekOutside products with their Nest system.

We use the Cimarron with the 2-person Nest and it gives us the floorless benefits for half the tent, but keeps our sleeping gear in a bathtub floor and free of bugs. It has worked great.

PS. Big Agnes does make really good products and you would be happy with either option.

How many people will be in the tent? The reason I ask is if you have 3 people in most 3 person tents you may end up enemies!

+1

For 3 guys, you'll definitely want a 4 man tent. The Cablea's Warthog looks like it might be up you're ally and comes in under $400.

Unless you're staking out on Everest or hunting Alaska, I never been in a situation where my 3 season didn't do what I needed.

No mainly just 2 people but don't want to be overly cramped either. Will vary from Az summers to Az winters in the snow for now but will be for Idaho soon I hope.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-07-16 AT 06:15PM (MST)[p]I know it's spendy but you may want to look into a Hilleberg model of some kind? Most of the Hillebergs are bomberproof. You usually get what you pay for in tents and it doesn't get much better quality..and higher price!

I bought an almost new Nallo 3 GT on Craigslist I used this year in Alaska and it was excellent. The Nallos have a giant vestibule for storing gear, cooking, etc. If you are hunting in rain or snow it certainly is good having the extra room to store your gear and dry things out. It is a 4 season tent and can withstand pretty much hurricane winds (which I have encountered). I believe my Nallo 3 GT only weighs around 7 lbs. The other nice thing about the Nallos is if it is going to be warm and dry you can use the poles with just the outer fly. I've done this quite a few times for ultra-light backpacking and still having gobs of room in under the tent fly/vestibule. I would have to double-check but believe my Nallo fly setup weighs only around 3 lbs. If I want a super light floor with my fly I'll add painters plastic.

The only bad thing I've found with the Nallos are they only have one vent on the one side. The vestibule doors open up on each side so there is plenty of air that flows through if it's not raining/snowing. If it rains for days it sometimes stinks for ventillation Hilleberg came out with a new lighter version of the Nallo that is even lighter weight but the fly doesn't cover the tent to the bottom. It would likely work fine in Arizona or elsewhere where it is fairly dry but not a very good idea for farther north.

Anyway, that may get you started. I would possibly take a look at some of the better brand 4 season tents and possibly find an almost new one on craigslist/ebay or possibly on the classified section of this or ROkslide websites. If you use a tent a lot you may regret not paying a little more for a super quality tent that will last a lifetime!

Thanks for the offer, I work for a company that I can get Easton tents at cost. I was just looking to see what everyone recommended and if Easton was named then I'd buy one of those. Right now it looks like BA is in the lead.

sent u a PM awhile back just looked on Camofire there is a Kelty Grandby 4 person on there right now regular price $400 for $220

If I was going super light I would either go with a Tarptent or the Hilleberg fly setup I mentioned above.

I have the Tarptent Stratospire 2 and like it a lot. Not a 4 season tent but very lightweight and extremely roomy for 2 people. You can actually fit 3 in it but it's great for 2 people with gear. You need trekking poles for the supports unless you choose to make some in the field which I prefer having an adjustable pole.

Personally a 3 or 4 person tent is too big for packing. 2 for 4 is easier.

I use a Kelty Gunnison 2.0 for just me.
Lots of room for gear even with 2.

I'm looking for a new truck camp tent as my old Gander Mtn 3m dome finally died after 25 yrs.
Solo set up a must.
Anyone use the newer teepee with stove models?
Or a good smaller canvas?
It's that or a Cabellas dome type, but I was thinking a stove might be handy for a change.
