So I a. Looking for my best option for a new set of binos or spotter. My hunting and scouting finds me in my truck a lot and walking a1/4 mile to point to glass etc. when hunting I can put on 6 to 7 miles a day easy. I do not back pack hunt yet, but may be exploring it more in the near future.

I hunt steep nasty deep but usually pack pretty light. Weight is not a huge factor assuming I can carry it comfortably. I am leaning towards binos because I like to run and gun a lot and often times only spot an opposite ridge for a few seconds at a time.

So what is a good all around set up? So far the most I have ever spent on binos is under 200 and my spotting scope is a 300 leupold.

Best binos for $800

Zeiss Conquest HD in 8x42,10x42

You are not going to get a good bino and spotter combined for $800.

I would concentrate on the binocular first.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-13-14 AT 09:33AM (MST)[p]check out minox..camera land has some great deals also..SLIK has great tri-pods lighter wt for packing and use a "crown royal " bag with hook to add wt when needed..Danny

They don't cost $800, but I would like to put in a plug for the Vortex Viper HD binos in whatever power you want (8, 10, 12, or 15). I have the 15x version, and I love them. I have yet to find a pair of binos that can beat these in this price range (about $575 or so). Everyone I have recommended the Vipers to has been amazed by their clarity and quality. I would go to your closest sporting goods store and compare them with binos costing $500 more, and I think you'll be hard pressed to find $500 worth of difference between the two.

I bought Leica Geovid 10 X 42 BRF Binos. New in box and the Rangefinder works over 1200 meters. 1200.00 was a smokin' deal. Clarity is as good as Swaros EL. Never going to find a deal like that again . I'm happy with them.

I have a pair of Zen-Ray PRIME HD 10x42 for $650. It looks like there are some demo deal out there for less. I was debating between this and Vortex Razor.

Steiner is German for Tasco.

No, they're more along the lines of shitty.

For a nice light weight spotting scope around 1 pound. Try the Nikon Ed50 13x30 50 scope. I hang it from my bino case. Its small and very clear glass.

Then you haven't looked thru them. I agree Steiner has some lousy binos in their lineup but to say the Peregrine xp is shitty is ignorant. To each their own I guess.

Euro hd love them. Also had the viper hd 10x50 and loved them . Bought the euro hd and gave the vipers to my son.
