Shot a buck with my 270 short mag yesterday at 200 yards and hit a little high. Long story short I got up to the buck and put a shot in his neck to finish him. Once I got him back to the house to skin him out I found that my first shots entry and exit were big enough for me to put my fist through, and the last shot in the neck even blood shot his front shoulder!! I was wondering if anyone has also had this problem? I was thinking that the gun shoots too fast for big game, but I was wanting some other opinions before I came to my conclusion. I was shooting Rem. Core lokt 130 gr shells. I have also taken other game with this rifle but I haven't noticed damage like this? This wasn't my finest shooting though

It's not too fast for big game, it's too fast for that bullet.

Try a better bullet.

also shoot a .270WSM and it all depends on the bullet you are using. try a better constructed bullet, personally, i use and like the 140gr nosler accubond.

I also agree with the others, I shot my moose this year with my 270 wsm at 345 yards. I shoot the accubond 140 grainers. shot went through front shoulder and lodged on the back side of the other, passing through both lungs and clipping the heart. It retained 110 grains and mushroomed out great. I dont think there are any better bullets out there for our kind of game. Thumbs up to nosler.

Agree with the rest, I shoot the 140 grain nosler accubond, 5 deer and 1 sheep down with 270wsm...

It has to be your bullet man. Because that is the best mule deer caliber out there. I would try a heavier bullet 140 or 150 grain Barnes tipped triple shock X

+1 to the others.
That is definitely a bullet problem, not the caliber.
I shoot 130g Barnes TTSXs in mine with no problems. I have also been testing the 140 Accubonds but have yet to kill anything with them.

I went on an Idaho Deer hunt this year, where 2 deer were harvested with the 270 WSM. Both shot with 140 grain accubonds.
The performance was fantastic! deep penetration, great wound channel, and lots of weight retention.
Great caliber!
