Proposed permit increases !

I want to thank everyone who has e-mailed and /or talked to their RAC members concerning the permit increases. It has been pretty overwhelming. As a RAC member I stand with all of you on this issue. While there may be a few places that need some attention due to agricultural depredation, they can be dealt with individually. I believe that the overall increase in permit numbers is not needed yet. Many of the units are not at the population objectives yet. I believe that we still need to wait at least a couple more years to start increasing permit numbers on most units.

No kidding. Couldn't agree more, I would definitely like to see them hold off a couple years before they increase the deer tags.

I was under the impression that when buck numbers exceeded the units objective the tags would be increased. This was the guise under which Option 2 was passed and tags were drastically reduced. Now that buck (and total) numbers are up across the board (with very few exceptions) you want to go against proposed increases? In the name of what? Older bucks? That management style is reserved for the LE units. Population objectives? More bucks aren't going to grow more deer! As long as there are enough bucks to breed all the does, the population will grow as all the other factors (weather mostly) allow.

I will be expressing this to the RACs as well and encouraging every one else I know to do the same.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-30-16 AT 04:11PM (MST)[p]The south end of the nebo unit would make a great home to any deer considered for hunting in a depredation circumstance.
Both the public ground as wel as the private area of the south nebo unit. Any additional deer are much needed.

A healthy deer herd has representation of all age classes of bucks. It is not 12-18 bucks per hundred with 2 of those bucks being 3 years of age. If we care about wildlife and deer like I hear hunters say we do not need to kill off extra bucks because we have reached a buck to doe ratio that will maintain a herd. We need to maintain a buck to doe ratio of a healthy herd, with all age classes of bucks represented. It is not about trophy hunting, it's about maintaining a healthy herd, not just one that has enough bucks to breed all the does.
