Well,
As always I am already looking forward to this trip. Planning on heading down on 11/8 for a couple days on the mountain. Plan on spending a day around Ellen and a day over on Penellen. Hopefully we aren't too early for the rut be be going strong. Couple of questions for those in the know. Are there many deer to be seen out on the Hillers in November?? Also, Did Ellen Peak get any snow the last couple weeks?? I know the pass can get a little hairy if there is much snow drift up there.

Thanks in advance.

I Don't know about this year?

But Last Year Most of the Deer at this time were just as High as you could get for the most part!

I know so many people in so many places
They make allot of money but they got sad faces

It Ain't Easy being Me!:D:D:D

Not the best pic, but it was taken Tuesday 10/23

BIG JOHN,

I met you out there last year. Will you be out this year?? We will be cruising around in a Silver Can Am Commander followed by a Red Polaris Ranger. That goes for anyone else as well. If you see us, don't hesitate to say Hey.

We have the last of the deer hunt this weekend. Then the muzzleloader elk starts Wednesday. But its less then hour from the cabin without the tourist in the way. We could get bored with seeing little deer and jet down to see what big ones look like. ???

LAST EDITED ON Oct-25-18 AT 08:58AM (MST)[p]http://www.monstermuleys.info/photos/user_photos_2018/4636220181025085301.jpg

I wish I could draw that tag. This pic taken 10/20. I was cutting wood.

I dont mind some snow on top. Just as long as we can get through the pass. I would just like to know if its worth the time to ride over to the Hillers? Ever since that You Tube video came out, I have been curious about the area over there. I cant see why there would't be a herd over there. It looks like good country. Uncle is sitting on 21 points. We like to call it an "inventory check". haha.

Thanks Hogg. Your intel is a really big help in trying to get an idea on the condition of the mountain. I am excited to make the trip again. Hopefully I can find a couple bruisers to take pictures of.

I was down there for the archery bison hunt and for a few days you couldn't make it around ellen because of the snow. I'll be down there tomorrow and if I make it that high up I'll let ya know.

There won't be much of a bison herd left next year. My daughter was on the alternate list and got an email that she could hunt the January "emergency" cow bison hunt. The email stated that the hunt would be crowded. That makes me wonder how many emergency tags there will be. We turned it down so good luck to anyone else that gets the tag.

Made it down and I didn't make it up that high but I did talk to a few folks that had. All of them told me the same thing that the bull creek pass is shutdown for the year. I asked about the road from the towers south to loop around to the gold mine and got mixed answers. 2 of the groups said impassable and another group said they went that way. I don't know if the group that said they made it that way thought I meant the lower road or if they were just a little more ballsey and pushed through. Anyway that's what info I do have and if I hear more I'll let you know.

So your saying. Put the tracks on the razor and I am good . Maybe I can rent it out this year ? It's been just the opposite the last two years. Zero snow.

OK BigJohn. What I am going to need you to do is this. Put them tracks on, get up there and blaze a nice trail through the pass for us mortals to follow. haha. I would imagine by next week with no weather, there should be a way up top, even if the pass is closed. Then again, might not be any reason to get up top if the deer have moved down. Either way, I cant wait to get down there. I've got Big Bucks on the brain. haha If anyone has any new intel over the next week, I am all ears. Thanks again for everyone's input so far.

A couple more days!! I cant wait. Anyone been down in the last week or so?? Is anyone seeing any rut activity going on around the State?. I hope we aren't too early..

BIGJOHN,
Did you blaze that trail for me yet?? haha

Nope,I did look over at the Henry's a few time. Wanted to head that way and take a look. But we where hunting elk. Tough finding those elk on the Henry's. :)

There he is!! Come Friday, you zoom in that spotter and you will see me waving back at you from that snowy peak! haha. Now, will you please send a picture that looks a little warmer!! haha

You can't make it through bull creek but you can make it around the south end from the towers to the horn no issue at all. I don't know what the people were talking about with the south side road there wasn?t a drop of snow.

Back to the Real World. We had a great time on the mountain over the weekend. We covered everything from the Hillers to the Snow Line near Bull Creek Pass. We seen a ton of deer and a lot of bucks. Some bucks were really Rutty, where others not so much.
Unfortunately, we didn't turn up the famous Henry Mountain Monster.
Biggest buck we seen might have stretched the tape to 190". I had heard the drought really affected horn growth down there this year. From what I have seen in years past down there, I would have to agree. Lots of bucks in the 160" range. I sure hope we have a wet spring to get this unit back to its elite status. If anyone reads this that hunted the Henry's this year, I would love to hear your experience via PM. Uncle is sitting on 21 points or the Muzzy hunt. I am trying to prepare as much as possible. Thanks guys.
