Older hunter needs help

I am an older hunter with over 60 years of hunting out of state, many times making 2 trips a year hunting mule and whitetail deer, but prefer mule deer. I have reached a point in my life where I have to be realistic, due to my physical condition I cannot walk any distance any more. On my recent trip to Idaho, while driving home I thought to myself, this is no fun any more, I'm getting too old for this, maybe I should give it up. Then I slapped myself in the head and asked myself, do you really want to quit? The answer was absolutely not, I'm not going to quit, after all, I'm only 80. I hunt a large private ranch here in California for blacktail. I have a newer Honda Pioneer side by side that I hunt out of, we call it road hunting. I thought about it and decided to post on this forum to see if that was a possibility. I have all the equipment such as spotting scope, binoculars, range finder, weapons, Honda side by side, etc. There is a good chance there might be 2 of us. We are not picky about food or accomodations, and would even consider staying in a motel and eating in local restaurants. Would not want to live in a tent and would want to hunt 5-7days. Now the important part: I am and always have been a trophy hunter and have killed many trophies, of which 5 are over 30", and 2 whitetail over 150. In mule deer I would consider a trophy to be a heavy horned, 26+ rack that would b&c score at 170+. In whitetail it would have to be 150+ heavy horned animal. We are not interested in killing a small buck just for the meat, if we didn't see one that was to our liking, well, it wouldn't be the first time we came home empty handed, but we want an area that produces quality bucks. Whoever we hook up with will have to gut and retrieve, and skin the animal. The second hunter would be younger and physically fit. Interested in North or South Dakota, Nebraska, Montana, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, Oregon, Nevada, etc. If anyone out there is interested in talking about this you can email me at [email protected], or call at 408-722-0125

It is reasons like this that I'm glad to have four young sons.

So you want to drive around in a SxS and shoot nice bucks and camp in a camp trailer.

You need $5k and pay an outfitter.

You're older than any cat I've ever known ;-)

I'm 68 with bad knees and ankles. Killed a big bodied 5 point bull elk this morning, out in the desert, about a 1000 yards from the truck. In the bed of truck at 6:00 tonight, and headed home. Thank goodness for sleds and snow. Tylenol, ibuprofen, and Capt. Morgan will get me thru the night!!!!

Hey Silver Streak my Grandmother lived to be 112 and she was the third oldest in the US and the ninth oldest in the world. She always said you are only as old as you feel and if it wasn't for these bad knees I would be fine.

I am 65 and hunting up and down the mountains as much as possible. When we went hunting this year I shot my buck and dragged it about 250 yards and loaded it on the Wheeler by myself as my son wouldn't answer his radio calls for help. It is still nice to know I can still do it if I have to. LOL and I had to.

Hunting is still hunting and I will do it from a Wheeler or whatever gets my butt up the mountain. I want to hunt into my 90's if possible and I live that long.

If you're looking at Utah, Alton or Deseret CWMUs might be to your liking. They cost a ton of money, but the hunt you described above doesn't cheap and easy. I guess you have to pick one or the other. (and even "easy" will be relative)

I'm not even sure you'd be able to purchase a tag at either for next year, but thought I'd throw it out there since you're asking.

The guy that taught me to ride a horse was 76 at the time and is now 86. He rides every day and does team sorting and penning. Hi is tough but not overly tough. Just a good guy. I am sure I will keep moving into my eighties. You still have a decade to go mr silver.
