I have been putting in for the BookCliffs Muzzleloader , but after sometime in the unit scouting the last few years and also reading what people have to say on this forum I'm not so sure I want to burn my points on this unit. But I also do not want to wait another 10+ years to draw the Paunsy or the Henrys. What are everyones thoughts on this?

I Don't really have an Answer for you!

I Doubt you could Pull the Henries Tag in 10 Years!

By Then (2029!) the TARDville Deer Herd Should really be F'D Up!

Well good news, you won't have to worry about drawing the Henry?s or pauns in 10 years, it?ll be more like 40 years before you'd begin to have a shot at it. IMO there isn't a LE unit besides the Henry?s or pauns in Utah that's worth even 10 years of waiting. Generally you can kill just as big or better deer on GS units if you invest a lot of time and effort to learn the unit. That said, my pick would be Vernon. You aren't guaranteed a giant, but there is potential for a decent deer

I'd keep with the Book cliffs if you are able to scout it a lot and get into the more roadless areas. The Vernon can be a hard unit to figure out. You might want to think about some of the late season muzzy hunts.

You Recommend Him Wasting His Points on a JUNK Unit?

Sure there's a Couple Good Bucks left out there but on average what was taken in the Book Cliffs this year was Pitiful!

Not even Close to wasting 11 Points on!

You Recommend the Book Cliffs & You Admit You Don't Know SQUAT about it & Admit you Spend No Time in the Unit!

GEEZUS!

One More Thing!

There is a Roadless part of the Book Cliffs!

Good Luck on Finding a Roadless Area on the North Roaded Part of the Unit!

The Only Way I'd Suggest Him to even Think about the Book Cliffs would be the Book Cliffs South Unit!

Sorry, I was referring to the South too. I'm tempted to put in for the unit at the expo just for the excuse to go hunt it once in my lifetime. If I lived out your way, I'm sure I'd know the unit real well and would have no problem finding a good buck.

It's All Good Ridge!

South might be the Best Bet!

I Can't Finds them!

Elkass seriously why don't you move outta utah if you hate it so bad and the hunting sucks every time you post there is negativity in your post bookcliffs would be a fun great hunt I've hunted it my self and would love to draw it again I had a blast and there are great bucks there but you'll have to work for them pm me if you draw this tag I'll be glad to help you out !

Watching the numbers, everything goes up by one pt every year. When I started 11 years ago, vernon took 5 or 6 pts.

Now, i will be lucky to go with a bow. I dont worry about big bucks, i will go for them, but am fine with a mature one. With that said, i think a guys chances to get a good tag is getting pretty hard in utah. Hopefully, they will make new areas limited entry areas so people will spread points around.

And limit more opportunities for the GS hunters? No thanks. Plenty of opportunities as it is to kill big deer and you certainly don't need a LE tag to do it

As a NR with 19 pts, I can assure you point creep will keep you from being guaranteed a premium tag. Unless the the UT DWR issues bonus points for the unit, your advantage is nominal and exponentially shrinking each year - statistics (math) will prove this out. Each year UT draw points are becoming more and more meaningless. I would stick with the Books, especially if you're familiar with the unit, and be grateful to draw the tag, and maybe only once in your lifetime.

*bonus tags

Thanks for all of the insight, I would like to put in for one of the late season Muzz tags instead but I am always hunting 3rd season Colorado at that time, and there is no way I will give up Colorado for Utah deer hunting. With my options being limited I think I will have to stay with the Book Cliffs. I don't want to have to wait until I have enough points to draw A Puans or henrys tag, after all I will probably never have enough points in this state. I'm pretty sure I can turn up a 170-180 buck.
