BAR open sights question

Hey folks, been hunting out west for the last 10 years based out of UT but moved back home to VA this spring. I can't tell you how many whitetails I've missed hunting in the trees/funnels trying to catch them moving from feeding areas to bedding areas while trying to get one eye dialed in through a scope when those quick boogers are moving through the trees. I have missed some monsters in the last 28 years! I've been successful a few years and even shot a 3 year old 8 point this year. Anyway, I finally ponied up the dough and bought a BAR this year and I'm looking for advice on what type of open sights you would recommend for the BAR (Grade l). Keep in mind that I'm looking for something that I can use two eyes with just before I start squeezing em off. It's an older model BAR with factory front sights but no rear sights. Any advice would be appreciated!

Bigfoot,

With some of the awsome low power
scopes going, if you can make that
work, the opens are not going to help
you.

1.5 - 5 Leupold

If you cant see throgh that,
you wont function with a peep site.

I'm a big peep site fan, and have
them on my levers, but a low power scope
will serve you much better.

If you cant do the 1.5 -5 Leupold,
you cant do any iron sites in my opinion.

Oh, and work on keeping BOTH eyes open regardless of the magnigication. You'll be able to find them and track them much better. No reason to squint and eye...with practice.

If you practice you can shoot at long rang with both eyes open. I have learned to shoot at 14 magnification with both eyes open, its like teaching a old dog new tricks but its very doable. At the ranges you will be shooting I think a 4 magnification will be just fine, and it will allow you to shoot with both eyes open a heck of a lot easier.

Wide angle low power scope will fill the ticket.

I have heard of people liking these things. A guy in our deer camp had one 3 or 4 years ago and I tried it looking at some deer one day I was helping him. That dang scope made me go cross-eyed and I couldn't tell if I was looking at the sun or a rock 10' in front of me. Everyone has different preferences though.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

Mntman,
It must have been a crappy quality scope or really out of focus for your eye. These type scope are used for dangerous game all the time because you can see so well at close range.
