Unit 20 Late Rifle Elk

Anyone every hunted this unit in either the Late Nov/Dec or January rifle elk hunts? Has the influence of city recreationist ruined a lot of hunting in this area? It seems like a low preference point hunt (5-7PP). Thanks for any PM's or direction.

That unit is too close to too many idiots with dirt bikes who can't read. I'd spend your points somewhere else.

I've harvested 2 elk on this hunt many years ago. I have hunted the unit 4 times myself and been on 2 additional hunts with my dad. You will need to have some sort of private land access. You do not need a lot of snow on this hunt as many of the elk reside outside the park year round and in my experience the elk in RMNP will leave the park as winter sets in regardless of snow. A lot of the elk hole up on private land and public land blocked by private. I killed both of my bulls on public land that I accessed via private with a trespass fee. I've been on several hunts that we hunted on public land and it was pretty disappointing. There is a lot of quality elk habitat that is on public land but I've yet to see any elk harvested or heard of elk taken in these areas. There are several quality outfitters in the area and in my experience trespass fees can be pretty reasonable. Its been a while since I've hunted there so I'm not sure if things have changed. The unit can produce some really great bulls so if you have money for a guide or land access you may do well. Best of luck.

Thanks for the information. I doubt if I could afford a trespass fee, but it sounds very interesting. I will probably stick with the original unit I was planning to draw and hopefully hunt it in 3-4 years.
