easter plains hunt info

Shoot me an email and I'll send you a pic of a buck limmer killed this year.

Hey boys - any of ya'll can get one just like this if you have $7500!! And how about pictures of the guys who paid the $7500 and did not shoot anything close to this. Where are those photos posted? I hunted unit 98 last year next to some of the land Limmer has leased. Killed a 175 class 5 x 4 mule deer for $4500. Ask the owners of Bledsoe Cattle Company who own thousands of acres of land in unit 98. They want no part of Limmer!!

Looks like I'm your man...I have hunted with CWO, did not kill a buck, and still highly recommend him for Colorado eastern plains mule deer... the guy gets it done EVERY year on giant mulies...nuff said...

Lol! Ya he doesn't have em in a small pen. They're wild deer that you hunt in the wide open. As with any hunting, sometimes it doesn't happen, but he kills several exceptional bucks every year, that's a fact that can't be argued.

And the fact is there are two others that I personally know of, one in unit 98 and one in unit 97, that get it done every year for $3750 - $4500

Lawrence,
How about a photo of you sitting there on the plains of eastern Colorado with no deer in the picture while your holding a copy of your cancelled check in the amount of $7500 payable to CWO.

DW - "exceptional" is a totally subjective rating. What may be exceptional to one hunter may not be to another. And what is the % success rate on those "exceptional" bucks?. Don't tell me about success rate overall, tell me about success on exceptional bucks. Unless you know from year to year how many clients he takes on the eastern plains and how many of them kill "exceptional" bucks you have no idea of what you're taking about.

Did he lease some ground you used to hunt?

The problem is you're trying to draw an objective conclusion using subjective (giant) criteria. Money begets strange bedfellows! This is yet another example of how money is the primary determining factor as opposed to outdoors related skill sets.

No need for that hoss, I admitted it up front. I went on a "hunt", not a "kill". The money obviously didn't have anything to do with it for me - I fully realized going in that this was a hunt and that every hunt is not successful, if success is defined by the need to kill. I had an opportunity at a 6x6 that would have cleared the 200" mark gross, but it just didn't work out. In the real world, that's the way it is sometimes. I don't regret spending the money one iota and I'll always remember that stud muley in my mind's eye. I learned a long time ago, you put your money down and you take your chances...and that's all I'm gonna say on this topic...

I guide for Scott. I am the one behind the camera that took the picture of the big buck in the Facebook link. You are right rambopup4, most hunters don't kill a buck as big as the one pictured. I don't know of anyplace you are guaranteed a buck close to that size other than Antelope Island or some of the Statewide Governors tags and we know what people pay for those.
Scott books this as a 180 class hunt and doesn't even care to book hunters expecting more than that. There is however a decent chance of something bigger. Most years something in the 230s or close to it gets taken. I guide out of the north camp units 98 and 93. During the time I was there during this years rifle hunt we took 6 bucks over 197 out of 14 hunters.
We went 4 for 4 on archery hunters while I was there, 2 of which killed bucks that went comfortably over 200. This is a pretty normal result for rifle but was a better than average week of archery.
There are no guarantees. It isn't easy and many times takes until the last day or two or not at all. That's hunting. Any of the hunters that have gone empty when I've been there (and it hasn't been many) have been like Lawrence in feeling like they still had a great hunt.
That's pretty "exceptional" in my book.

Zwickey - thank you for verifying my last post- exceptional is purely subjective! Any hunter paying $7500 for the outfitters expected take of a 180 class mule deer is a fool indeed. But some hunters have more money and testosterone than common sense. The same class of deer can be booked with another outfitter (Beau Davis) in unit 98 for $4500.
I took a 180 class mule deer in Wyoming unit 106 two years ago for $3500. An outfitter in Colorado unit 97 who routinely harvests 180- 200 class mule deer has hunts for $3750 - $5000.

So according to you 6 hunters out of 14 in 2017 shot a deer greater than 197. That means the majority, 8 or 58%, shot smaller than 197 or did not harvest a deer.

You are correct about two things - it isn't easy and there are no guarantees. Whether that's worth $3750 - $2500 more than what you and Limmer charge is the objective criteria.

So you've got 3 different outfitters where 42% (6 out of 14) of the hunters kill a buck between 197 and 234 for $3750 to $2500 cheaper.
No Brainer. You should definitely go with those guys.

Zwickey,

Agree 100%.

I've never hunted with Scott as I have plenty of access in eastern CO and have hunted out there many years. Your success rate this year on big bucks is EXCEPTIONAL. Congrats. Sure you can save some money and go with someone else but I don't think anyone is wasting their money by going with Scott if they want a 180"+ muley. That's a BIG muley any place in the country. Eastern CO is an awesome place to hunt.

Rambo's beef is ridiculous.

cowhitey - yep success rate on big bucks with CWO is very good. However it is more a function of money than outdoor related skills.

So in the interest of full disclosure pup go ahead and tell us, did he lease some ground out from under you or did one of his clients shoot a buck out from under you? It's pretty clear there's something you're not telling us.

Nothing to hide here. None of that occurred. Just trying to add some critical thinking skills into the boys on here that have more money and testosterone than common sense and think that CWO at $7500 is the best thing going in eastern Colorado. Based on my experience in units 98 and 97 there are clearly other options available with similar results for $3750 - $2500 less. Now - what did Forest Gump say?? "Stupid is as stupid does".
