Avg Points?

You think colorado will ever do group average of points? I heard they did back in the day, then one could drop it (retain pts) and some of the group could still go. tter his would be an easy fix.

Nope and they should not do it. There is very good reasons why they should not average points. Averaging points will lead to even greater point creep and will not solve the issue.

There was never an averaging system but they did try a banking system where people could use one more point than needed to draw a lic. It had no net effect on point creep. In many cases it forced lower point units to accelerate in creep.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-28-18 AT 03:49PM (MST)[p]I agree about the point banking, but not sure I see how the averaging would make point creep worse in the long run. Yes, for some of those midrange hunts, it would for a few years, but in the long run, it might clear some of those with lots of points out of the system. Right now there is no incentive for them to hunt with lower point friends because those people might not get picked and they would hunt alone. If a guy with 1 point, one with 5 points and 1 with 10 points want to put in as a group, it seems pretty fair that they should average the points and not go in at 1 point.

That said, if they ever did point average, they should absolutely do what Utah did to solve the problem of high point person backing out. On any group application, if 1 person backs out, the whole group has to turn their tags back in.

If they do averaging it would absolutely increase point creep. Cause then my mom would be applying for points along with my sister and my sister in law. Then I could draw a 2 point unit every year. Or I could hunt a zero point unit every year while they build points so I could hunt a higher point unit every 4-5 years.

Look at AZ where people do this. Or how bout Wyoming? Founder has been getting a tag every year for G. If founder only got 1 tag every 5 years 4 more guys would have burned points every 5 years. And it happens with guys applying for general elk tags in Wyoming all the way up through the limited units. I'm planning on doing it with my dad since I have more lope points. I'll drag him up to a better unit then what he could draw on his own.

Not complaining the systems are what they are but I believe it will absolutely increase point creep in Colorado if they start averaging points.

Thanks. Spent points last year and dad sits with 7 or 8. If i could use his to pull me up, i would do it. If not, may be done with colorado. (So the theory to less guys may hold true)
