Read 'em and weep

Opening day was tough between cow (elk) hunters and cowboys rounding up cows (bovine) but we hit it hard without seeing a good bull.

Today was much better with good rut action. I passed this bull and another similar bull in the herd a few times. After watching him fight another bull at 100 yards then work through the cows bugling I couldn't resist the broadside shot at 100 yards }>

Nice Bull don't want to be a ##### but lets all stop advertising the leftover list!!!! Soon any chance at anything good will go the way of the dodo bird with everybody and their brother dogging it....

That list has been promoted to death. Most guys aren't going to buy a tag the day before season those tags all showed up midday on Friday I bet 99 percent of people already had plans especially non residents.

Its a numbers game...the more people that hear of these great tags showing up the more that will dog the list...kind like back in the day and just a few played the points game and then everybody told everybody on earth..... me too.... gotta get points!!! And you see where it is compared to where it was.....

I was on another hunt but would have dropped everything to go but they were gone quick.....and the chances will soon become astronomical....

Not just this flush of 61 tags but others too...

yes, they are always in the dumpster behind the CPW office on 58th and broadway in denver. Just wait for them to take out the trash and grab them.. HAHAHAHA

Nice job SanJuan Great Bull !! We were up there also getting the boy a cow. Saw a bull like this but he was not in an area that looked like that.

I'd be willing to bet that a dry summer and a fairly well publicized fire had a lot to do with the number of returns.
Personally I don't get it. There was another post about a hunter with a 3rd season bull tag wondering about returning it, I posted that I would definitely hunt that tag, or any other bull tag for that unit. Plenty of places to go looking for a bull if a guy is willing to work at it.

Congrats to the original poster for a great bull! Looks like a fairly easy place to pack out of too. :D

Thanks for the positive responses guys.

Yes, it was the easiest pack out I have ever had on a bull elk with a road being less than a quarter of a mile away on flat ground.

I can see your point about not advertising the leftover list. It is already nearly impossible to get a tag off of it. I bet I had tried over 100 times to get tags this year but wasn't fast enough. That's part of the reason I was so excited about getting these two tags in one morning.

The mountains, not the hills.

SJS..you got some great tags and I would be excited too...and you made great hay out of that tag....I know the reissue is no secret but still doable...

There has just been too much gold gotten for zero points I bet in the near future they make a change on yhow it is done...but in the meantime I'm still hoping...

To much gold gotten???? considering that 3 years ago these tags went to waste because there was no reissue process I think they are liking the system they have now.

Maybe but when something like a 201 elk landowner tag goes for 15-20 grand and they are selling them for 46 bucks....somebody is gonna catch on..... I am afraid the current processes days are numbered...but I could be wrong it is the government after all!!!

Yeah I'm sure posting it on here will have the demand triple next year. Not that Eastman's article on it or hunting fool or epic outdoors. Not to mention the hundreds of podcasts it's been discussed on.

LOL Yep the return tags list will be like the Utah left over tag list Gone in seconds.
