I was drawn for the 11/27-12/3 late bull elk hunt. I am 11yrs old. My dad and grandpa will be along with me on this hunt but they do not know the area very well. We will be scouting all summer long and when school is back in session in August we will scout every other weekend. Since this is one of the last hunts in the unit what can I expect to see come November? Won't all the elk be scattered and hiding because of all the pressure? Are we scouting too early? Should we focus on scouting more later/closer to the actual hunt? I know weather will be a factor also. Any and all help is greatly appreciated and I wouldn't mind a few areas to check out if anybody is willing to offer up some information.

Thank You
Dylan

The only scouting you should be doing that early is getting to know the country. Find good glassing spots, Forest Service roads, access points, etc.... It always fun to look for animals, but they will usually be in very different area's as the hunt gets closer. You should really start your hard core scouting about 2-4 weeks prior to the hunt. Make sure you know how to glass. Make sure you can shoot accurately at whatever distance you feel comfortable. Have fun and enjoy your hunt!

I don't have a tag for this hunt but I will be up there helping a friend of mine fill his and his sons tags. I will pm you my info, if you need any help with a downed animal or anything you can call me. Also get me your info and if I can put you on an animal I will. We are always happy to help out the next generation of hunters

Darrin,
It's easy to PM someone. You just find the envelope icon at the top of someone's post and click on it. It opens up a window that has a subject box and then a place to send a message to that person.
Give it a try. I can do it so you know it's not hard.

Best of luck on finding a big bull!

Headed up tomorrow morning. We have a few bulls on camera so I hope they stay in the area. Looks like the snow will not be falling during my hunt. Good luck to all late rifle elk hunters be safe out there.

Go get 'em Dylan!! Let us know how the hunt goes and post pics!

If I had any info, I would surely pass it along. But I live in TN, where there are only 5 elk tags a year!

Sent you an email with contact info. I live in 7west and I'll gladly help you early next week if you don't have luck this weekend. I'm scouting for my sheep tag this weekend and leaving Weds for my sheep hunt but Monday and Tuesday afternoon I should be available.

No luck on the hunt. We only saw 3 elk total in 6 days of hunting. It was very cold in the mornings and the elk didn't seem to be moving much. We walked 7+ miles every day. It was a fun hunt but disappointed I didn't get a shot. Oh well that is why it is called hunting.
