Wondering how many points it took to draw a unit 1
early archery tag---so who drew and how many points did you have going into the draw. By the way congratulations!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-25-16 AT 05:28PM (MST)[p]I drew with one bonus point this year (was my hunter ed point, as I drew an elk tag last year also....). Obviously a 'win the lottery' type of situation. ;-) Unit 1 was my first choice on a long shot, and I assumed that IF drawn it would be for my second choice. Lucked-out though!

Edit: Archery Bull.

with changes in AZ draw system will be very interesting to see if N.R. can draw a Premium tag with less than MAX B.P. as in past ... a client of mine drew unit 1 muzzie elk with 2nd. choice with 21 B.P. and even drew tag #1 . Good Luck to all ... Bruce & SilverGrand

Last year as a non res it took I think 14. I drew and had a fun hunt, lots of elk. The number of bulls that were 350 or better was disappointing. Lots of herd bulls in the 300-330 type. Not the quality of a few years prior. Many locals said they have given out too many tags. It will be interesting to see how many points it took for non res to draw. Good luck to those who drew and have fun.

The only tags I have seen drawn this year for unit 1 are resident and it is all over the board as would be expected. Interested to see what happens with non-residents. I do agree that too many tags have been given out. Quality of the hunt on unit 1 has gone way down. I suspect the magazines will start talking about this in the next couple of years, they are usually a couple years late, but there isn't a chance I would burn 14 points on this hunt right now. Unfortunately, most non-res have missed the boat if this is their go to unit at this point. If they don't decrease pressure unit 1 will become a unit 5 or 6 type hunt over time.

LONG odds, indeed! ;-) I was one of the few who drew with 2 bonus points (Loyalty and Hunter Ed points.....).

PS: Finished my hunt last weekend. Didn't kill an elk but had an AMAZING 12 days in the mountains chasing elk! Learned a lot about my ineptitude! lol What a hunt!
