Unit 6a elk

My buddy and I drew a 6a early archery tag we are rookie flat Landers I am hoping to get him his first elk we would like to get away from people as much as we can if that is possible if anybody has any advice on where to start looking I would appreciate it

LAST EDITED ON Jul-17-17 AT 07:51PM (MST)[p]Pretty much impossible to get away from people in the unit, but there are lots of elk. A ton less hunters that second week vs. the first.

I have hunted it a few times. I agree, last week the best as everyone can't wait to get there and goes the first week. Plus, the bulls are more interested in cows then.

Most of the people you see will be from Scottsdale or north Phoenix. They seem to own the unit. That's just what I hear. I don't go there much.

Good luck on your early archery tag! I drew Non-Res for 6A Late hunt. Very excited to get off the road,put some miles on the boots and see if we can't harvest some nice bulls. It seems like there are some knowledgeable folks in these forums so hopefully everything works out! Hunt hard and good luck!
