LAST EDITED ON Dec-21-16 AT 10:43PM (MST)[p]So after 5 days, finally saw some legal bulls. After not seeing any bulls this morning, decided to go a little higher. Glassed a hillside that looked to good to pass up, glad I did. Though the spotting scope I found 3 bulls, one of which was a 6x6. Loaded the bag and started walking. Went down wind as i went down the hill into the draw, and then up again the other side, keeping the wind in my face. Before I got tho the area I had glassed prior, 4-5 bulls stood up and walked off. Luckily they did not go far (50 yds or so), and started to graze. As I sat there trying to figure out a plan, they walked off again. As i glassed the area up ahead with my binos, I saw the tops of a bull,s antlers, and saw it was at least 6 points on one side. 80 yards away, he was bedded down. I got within 65 yards and ranges a tree between him and I that would put me 50 yards away. 60 yards is my max I feel comfortable shooting accurately, so 50 was perfect. As the wind blew, I moved yard by yard until I was at the tree. As I turned my GoPro on I have attached to my limbs, he suddenly stood up. Before I could hit record, I nocked an arrow, stood up coming to full draw and released. I must have hit a twig or something that I did not see, as the arrow started to circle in flight as it was half way to the bull. Luckily it did not fly off course and hit just behind the heart. He took off running, leaving behind a good solid blood trail. 100 yards or so later there he was, my first New Mexico elk!
