Unsuccessful

Congrats to all that drew. 7 years been applying as a NR for and always the same unsuccessful result. Odds getting worse every year too! Maybe someday.

Man that sucks! Is this the only state you drew for?

At least you aren't a resident who can't draw....... Like me.

Nope, I was hoping to draw and have been setting my sights on hunts that are less and less desirable every year. I want to hunt NM because the in-laws live there and I was thinking it would be convenient to drop wife and children off in Albuquerque while I got lost in the hills. Sort of kill 2 birds with one stone. I do apply for some different States. Will not hunt much this year as I am in a graduate program.

Don't feel bad. As a resident I only drew 1-8 a crappy muzzy deer hunt that has little success and likely nothing big. My wife got a good tag....barb. (Makes me happy) My 63 yr old mom all red and she lives to do this. Dad all red as well. I have a buddy who in three years as a res. 2 out of 3 all red...5-6 apps. There are OTC available which is what I will do this year to keep satisfied. Hang in...it will happen. GL

LAST EDITED ON Apr-14-17 AT 10:56AM (MST)[p]Amazing the difference since the outfitter welfare bill back what ten years ago? NM went from one of the easiest states to draw to one of the hardest overnight. We'd always get at least our third choice low demand elk unit. The change, plus banning NR from state land, turned our low demand unit from 90% NR odds to 6%. I've only drawn once since then, and that in the outfitter pool. Game changer for sure. Just after I really got to learn that unit. Oh well. These days the odds are so low I really don't even really think about returning in my lifetime. I apply but pretty much gave up on NM. Really used to enjoy my visits there, both hunting and other activities. All over now.

Yes Rio, I did draw two low demand hunts two years ago. Since then, we are 0-25 as a family.... Not even my kids can draw youth tags....

This couldn't be more spot-on from my perspective as well. I grew up in NM but moved away many years ago. Brutal draw odds now after "Outfitter subsidies" kicked in.
