My brother in law drew an ES tag in Unit 51. Can anyone give me a prognosis? Thanks in advance

Has to be the worst unit in the state, I could not find a single oryx on my state wide tag!I think all the dang elk scared them off, I tell you what if your going up there to hunt barbery sheep or oryx don't go! I hunted around trout lakes and saw lots of elk. English tanks also holds good elk numbers but unless your hunting elk I don't think any of this is useful, good luck to your brother on his ibex hunt!

This muzzle loader hunting is a good meat hunt and rag horn hunt. I'm going to break it up to pros and cons.

PROS: Big unit, get to go hunting, fun hunt

CONS: Youth hunt starts the day before on Friday, road conditions that time of year, Large Elk herds on private.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-18-17 AT 12:28PM (MST)[p]From what I gather from info and past experiences hunting all the units in the low 50s being 50,51,52 are extremely overrated... yes even 52! If you're not local it's a waste of time. 52 is decent in elk numbers but it get outweighed by the number of tags they issue. I mean who wants to wake up at 3am from camp, I might add, to be first in a area only to have 2 other sets of hunters follow you in... it's ridiculous! 51 is the same thing with more roads and in my opinion less elk than its brother unit 52.

Don't even get me started on unit 50... the game and fish issues 150 tags per hunt and I think that's 150 too many!

the Bull tags in unit 51 are 220 tags and 250ish cow tags not to mention the late cow tags they give in march ever year. Good thing is where i hunt only a few people know about and we never cross paths in 51. Gone the whole day with never seeing a other hunter, try doing that in 50 or 52

wow finding a spot like that is rare in that area. Keep that place a secret. But really its ridiculous... If you don't like hunting with the crowds, its best to stay out of these units.
