Hello all I got drawn for unit 16C Elk 1st archery hunt and was looking for some pointers or advice were to go scouting... Never been to that unit so unfamiliar where to try... Thanks for your help...

LAST EDITED ON Apr-19-17 AT 08:36AM (MST)[p]I have never hunted 16C, however I have hunted 16A. There is a road (USFS Rd 18) along the southern end of 16C that I drove several times to get to 16A. I don't remember how many, but there are several water tanks off of this road in 16C. The only drawback is they are not very remote, so you may encounter several hunters. I did see a decent size herd last year in 16C in the very SW corner. There was a few bulls with them. I also saw a giant bull just across the road in 16B from 16C in the same corner. I hope this may help a little and wish you the best of luck.

Yes sir that does help I appreciate the reply yeah may be quite a few hunters but I'll check that area out... I plan on making several scouting trips before the hunt... It will be a good hunt either way...

Another starting point would be the road that divides 16e from 16c. I've seen several on the 16c side just driving that road. It's not a secret though--be prepared to also see lots of hunters.

I see ill look into that area as well it will be tough hunting a new unit but it will be a blast i haven't drawn elk in a few years so I'm just pumped to get to go again...

Hey bro I see you have hunted 16c! Did you tag out? My daughter drew out a youth tag this year in unit 16c! This is our first year hunting elk. Any kind of pointers and advice would be helpful buddy. I'll appreciate any advice. Thank you!

The youth hunt is a great hunt. My kid had it a few years ago, got A nice bull. We passed on small bulls until we found a good one. Elk are all over that unit, it will just depend on rain fall which part of unit they will be using next year. Bulls are usually talking real good during youth hunt. Great experience you will have a blast.

My son and I drew 16C second archery. Going there tomorrow to turkey hunt and scout this weekend. Anybody have advice on where to camp?
