first timer in unit 51 new mexico

i bought a landowner tag in unit 51 for my brother.its elk muzzleloader oct 7-11.i am planning a diy,and plan on being his guide. if anyone would have information on a good part of the unit to start researching i would be very much appreciated.im not asking fo anyones honeyhole,just a good area to check out,so i can help my brother the best i can, THANK YOU

I've had good luck around the Hopewell Lake and Burned mountain areas, but if one of the locals offer their advice take theirs not mine! LOL!

Are you sure it is not for unit 52 because the muzzleloader hunt is not until Dec for unit 51.

correct there is no early muzzle in 51 the oct 7 hunt is rifle in 51. Good hunt tho. Watch out for the theives tho

Great little unit for late season for sure, not sure about it that early.

Great folks at Chili Line Depot stop in and have a beer and meal and good long conversation with Deb and Gil.

Yes! Hunted that area for muleys a few years back. We'd hunt every morning then head down there for breakfast and to take a break from not seeing anything. Those ladies were great and cooked up some good food too!
