Unit 15 Update

I will be leaving this Saturday for my kids cow elk hunt. Figured I would see if anyone has been in unit 15 lately and be willing to help speed up the process of us finding those ladies. Should be a fun hunt with my boys and those smoke sticks. lol

Well, the boys Cow Elk hunt could have definitely went a lot better.

Arrived 5 days before the hunt and an ATV that I borrowed decided to develop a fuel leak (dumped the entire tank overnight). We found a couple of herds of Elk, both with about 100 in them each. Then opening morning, the snow cam and he Elk disappeared. We searched all over and could not find where the held up. Then the second morning, the generator for the RV decided to quit working. That threw us into keep the pipes from busting in the RV mode. On op of this, the weather forecast was calling for another 12" of snow and some really cold temperatures. So, we had to crawl home and call the hunt done with no Elk to put in the freezer.

The kids were awesome and kept their heads high and had fun but I know they really wanted to put the hands on some elk.

So, like I said, the hunt definitely could have went better but we still had fun as a family.

Sorry to hear your young hunter did not tip one over. My boy and I were down there as well. It took us until the morning of the last day to tag out. It was definitely cold and snowy. What bugged me the most was the fog! We stayed at the motel in Quemado, so didn't have the same issues as you did with your RV. Don?t feel too bad. Out of the 5 years I've been taking my kids to 15, this was the third elk shot. Better luck next year and thanks for taking your kids hunting. It does make a difference
