24-1 Elk

I drew a 24-1 elk tag. I would appreciate any pictures or stories from past hunts to keep the excitement going for the next 6 months. Thank you in advance.

Congratulations on the tag, unfortunately I don't know anyone that has hunted that unit but on one of my previous post on advice for which unit to put in for there was a guy or two that shared info on it so I'm sure someone can give you a hand. Good Luck!

Thank for the reply. Im not looking for info, just some pictures of the landscape and elk if people have them. I enjoy learning the country and the elk as much as i do the hunting.

Lot's of small bulls in 24. There's some, but not many big ones. Its an easy hunt and a fun hunt. I shot a decent 6pt when I last had the tag. Wouldn't put in for it again given the low draw odds and lack of big bulls. Spend your time scouting before the season starts and you won't have a problem finding elk...

I spent two days in 24 this weekend. What a beautiful area. Learned some roads, found some water, wallows, and plenty of elk. Less than two months before we are chasing bulls in Wyoming.

a good bull for this unit is a 300 or better, decent? 275
lots of elk and relatively few over the 300 mark. and to add to that the success ratio is really not that as good as you would think, which I don't understand. tons of elk

We saw a good number of them, but I am used to Nevada's mismanaged horse population so it didn't seem too bad.

Ouch, then you know the problem better than I ever want to. Doesn't Nevada have as many wild horses as the rest of the western states combined?
It's disappointing sometimes to see their interaction/affect with wild game. I know the herds in Utah's west desert are notorious for chasing elk/deer/pronghorn away from water sources.
The game warden for 24 told me the same thing - horses will lead you to water holes, which helps to find elk. But the horses drink first.
