Area 23 Antelope

I have hunted 23 several times for Antelope. I had access but can't get ahold of the landowner and not sure what happened. I am thinking he might have leased out and he talked about it in the past I might be looking for access for a reasonable price...any tips are greatly appreciated.

So are you saying that you have a 23-2 license that is only good on private land?

Gonna pick them up when the left over is available..last year got a buck and two does....

That's good because I sure wouldn't buy them until you have a place tied down to do your hunt. Good luck!

Still looking....picked up the tags...got burnt a few years ago when one week there were like 400 tags and then next week gone...

Best advise I got is go to Johnson, and Campbell county GIS maps, click on land, see the owner, google their name to see if you can find a number for the owner, and if you can get a hold of someone ask if they do Antelope hunts. If they don't maybe they would know someone, or someone that has an opening. There is 5,100 acres of WIHA in unit 23, which is private land, so you could hunt that land for sure.

Yes they are. Google Johnson County GIS map, or Campbell County GIS map.

Awesome great tip...still trying my old landowner and it could very well just hard to contract. But as you know places come and go for whatever reason....

Are Game wardens helpful in this regard?...some states encourage them to help the connection...not sure about Wyoming

You might also give the local bio a call. They can be most helpful sometimes. Dan Thiele out of the Buffalo office is great, I think 23 might be his unit so I'd call him. When I was looking for access he knew all the ranchers that allowed it and who didn't. He also really knows his areas and where the animals are.

Antelope Hunt Area 23 is not in Dan Thiele's biologist district. 's It is in Erika Peckham's bio. district.

Right - I wasn't sure if it was Dan or not, I know Dan's units are 20,21,22,113 and maybe one more, thought it was 23 but guess not. But still, give Erica a call she should be able to give you some good info.

The North Gillette game warden area is currently vacant, but should be someone there in 2-3 weeks.

Erika's Bio. district covers three game warden areas - north and south Gillette and Moorcroft.
