My 16 yr old boys drew this tag and looking around looks like access could be an issue. Not sure how I missed that during the application. Just want to show them a good hunt and hopefully some opportunity. If you could give me some suggestions where to start please pm me.

Thanks in advance,

Jimbo

there are 300 pronghorn rifle tags in most of the unit before your sons get to hunt. look outside the early start area.

What are you talking about 2 point? There are 50 tags before his hunt not 300. To the OP, pm me and I will give you some suggestions on where to hunt. I've hunted the unit with a muzzleloader 3 times and can steer you in the right direction.

There are 50 99-2 tags and 250 99-7 tags for a total of 300 that have a season opener of 8/15 in part of the unit just like 2 point stated!

Ok, I see what your saying. However, the 99-7 tags are for doe and fawn. Not an issue when he is hunting for a buck. Also, the part of the unit that he will want to be hunting is not where the restricted area is for those with the 99-2 or 99-7 tags.

those bucks will not react at all to the pressure of the 250 doe hunters on top of 50 buck hunters. that makes no sense. i already said to hunt outside the early area.

If they were going to hunt where all that hoard of assorted hunters already had started, it's obvious to most people that it would stir things up. IF they hunt in an area where those other hunting types aren't allowed, then I see no big problem. I hope they are able to do that and have a fun, safe, successful hunt!

The boys both got bucks. It was not easy and we were limited as to where we could hunt. I have never seen antelope so spooky early on. One day while my son was making a stalk, a guy flew over him in an ultra-light. Perhaps that is why they were so crazy. All I was looking for was to get them drawn before they had to pay adult prices to hunt and we were able to do that. I talked to a guy that hunted the same unit but had private property to hunt and he said it was great. If you can gain access to some private, that would be the way to go.

Thanks for your help Robb. We went where you suggested. Had the antelope scored and they both qualify for the Longhunter record book. I was worried one would and the other might not. The smaller of the two just barely made it!
