I think you can count on getting your elk license.
If you don't get drawn get on the alternates list. There will be a lot of returns.

I know in previous years, folks could return teh elk portion of the combo tags. Is that the case this year too?

Some of my family members applied as NR for the Big Game Combo. There's a spot right on the application if they do not draw the special elk unit they applied for to recieve a refund for the elk tag and retain the deer tag.

Im not certain if you can or can not get a refund after the fact getting the lic or if the applicate has to make its final decision when doing the application for the refund?

I called MT F&G before applying. They said you would still be able to turn them in just like in the past.
