hello name is chance got out marine corp about 7 months ago and wife is in airforce and found out we are moving to mountain home idaho in 6 month been doing some research. pretty busy areas around boise looking to hunt in 48,49 and places around that area. just looking for a little inside and some tips with both elk and mule deer. not looking for honey holes just some pointers and i have already read fish and game. anything helps thanks for info in advance. also if anyone hunts close to there and need a hunting buddy or even helping hand at times let me know 24 and love being outdoors.

You likely won't get much useful advice being a new member, but if you're willing to explore you won't need it . There's deer and elk to be had , hit the hills and find an area you like.

Welcome to the forum. From Mt Home you can head straight up north to 43 and 44. Some beautiful country up there and lots of fun places to camp and explore all summer.

I'm always willing to share with members of our military. I have not hunted those units but I have hunted unit 50 for archery twice and killed a small 6x6 and a five point. If that is not two far to go I could give you some areas so you wouldn't be going in blind. However I didn't see much for deer mostly elk. You can PM me if your interested.

48 and 49 were hit hard by winter in 17. I don't expect the deer the be doing so well for another year or 2. 43 might be a good option or 39.

Ya good to know was just trying to stay alway from 39 ,43 cause a lot of forums and chats say it's over populated with people

Thank you both for your service, you have good hunting from mountain home all the way up into the mountains. As you have heard on here the deer took a hit in 2017. 48 and 49 are great elk hunting but are also be coming crowded. There is a huge push on unlimited bow hunters in our area. Be selective on choosing your area and most importantly you have to scout to learn this country. You also have some of the best deer hunting in Idaho very close to mountain home.
