Antelope Supertag

I was lucky enough to draw a speed goat super tag this year. I will be headed over to the country around Twin Falls to see what I might be able to find. Plan on getting there at least a couple days in advance of the opener and I should be able to make a second trip back later in the season if needed.

The bios have given me some starting points, so that's probably where I will begin.

If anybody has knowledge of the area, and is interested in sharing some information and/or meeting up, that would be great. Feel free to PM me or email.

Hoping to find something that might go 80 inches, but we shall see. Either way, I am sure it will be fun.

Good luck, that will be a blast. Disclaimer, sorry no experience around Twin.

I love antelope hunting, not a ton of opportunity in Idaho excluding does or archery.

I'm curious as to what guys with more experience think are truly the best lope units in ID. 39? 45? 40? It seems as though there is no consensus, as we are not an antelope state and unit quality differences may be negligible.

I've seen one or two bucks in 45 over the past 4 years that I would estimate in the mid to high 70's. Great bucks, especially for ID.

Which units are you going to focus on? Good luck, report back with some pics and stories.

Always a giant or 2 hanging out on border of 54 and Nevada. East of magic hot springs south of twin. Good luck. Been a few years since I have been out there but a few big ones in the past.

Unit 55/57 has some nice ones as well... i think they give a few tags out.

I think the areas around Twin Falls would be a good area to start.
Honestly, I feel like I have a better chance at killing an 80"+ pronghorn in most units in Wyoming than the supper hunt in Idaho. The problem is you are competing with guys who drew the same units you will be hunting and some of them are going to be able to put a lot of time into scouting their unit. They have just as good or better chance than you do at a big pronghorn. You could defiantly kill a really nice pronghorn but don't get too caught up in inches and just enjoy the hunt.
Good luck and I hope you enjoy the experience.

+1. That echoes my experience with my 1 antelope tag in Wyoming. Although a very cool experience, the supertag almost appears to be a curse. When you draw a single unit you can really scout and focus your efforts and learn that unit well.

But a supertag allows you to see some cool country and units you wouldn't normally get to experience. Cool problem to have!

Well, my hunt is over, and I did not harvest.

I spent most of my time in 55 and saw some goats to shoot. However, I did not feel any were very close to my goal of 80 inches.

It did not help that the time I was able to allocate to the hunt was more limited than I had hoped. Nonetheless, it was still fun to just be out there and see some new country.

Thanks to all of you that provided input on my hunt.

Between "Willow Creek summit" and Challis on both sides of HWY 93 the Antelope are thick as ticks on a hound.

Do a landowner a favor and take a mature doe out on one of the late hunts that's still open, and get some fine eating meat to enjoy over the winter. Could still make it a fun and challenging hunt.
