Are there any good bucks in WA state in an area with few people and tough terrain?

Try the high buck hunt from september 15-25, low odds, low pressure, and tough country but a real shot at one of those high mountain bruisers.

There are also a lot of big bucks in not so tough terrain! You just have to do some homework, go where others pass by and not be afraid to try something really obvious. Study topo maps and find little pockets where folks hunt all around but wont venture into.

Polarbear's right about that. My son's buck from last year and mine from the year before, came from areas that were easy to get into, but just don't receive the hunting pressure that the more well known and popular areas get. On average, in the last 5 years, I have seen only 2 or 3 people in the field. Scott

If I was after a trophy I wouldn't put all my eggs in teh high hunt, some good ones are taken but on average they are not the biggest bucks in teh state in any given year,

Grab a USGS map of anywhere in NE or N Central Wa. Pick a likely area for a September scout. Find the roughest, nastiest, highest crap you can find and that's where you'll see a good buck. I've not seen one trophy muley off of the roads over there, but it does happen occasionally, usually when somone who's hiked in pushes them out that way. Hike in at least a mile from any driven road.

Of course! Get a topo map, find a probable spot, and check it out. Good luck in this upcoming season.

Oh I got ya, I get confused easily, I guess you were right. It is probable. I can't spell, let alone hunt....

Check out the Glacier Peak Wilderness and Alpine Lakes wilderness and follow these guys' advice, also give the Wildlife Biologist a call...
