LAST EDITED ON Jul-17-07 AT 07:41PM (MST)[p]Unbelievable. I guess this is good news for me because I was not selected for any of my hunts. They have this posted on the website:

"NOTICE: Due to technical difficulties, 2007 special hunt draw results are not available at this time"

Could you image being selected for sheep, then getting information that you now aren't selected because they re-ran the draw and you weren't selected the second time? I can't even imagine what I would do... (I'm a lawyer, I could conjure up something...)

This is a very hot topic right now! My partner and I were selected for Moose and now they say they are Re-drawing because everyone was in the draw with out preference points! This also happened with the spring bear tag but nothing was done to correct the problem then! I highly suggest everyone that has drawn a permit to print out a hard copy of their History that shows the last ten years of your records for WA that shows year by year Selections. This has to be good for something! The WA point system doesn't work anyways; the lucky people will still get all the good permits. I myself have been applying for Mtn. Goat for the last 25 plus years and still have maximum points; But a good friend of mine has drawn 3 times and has a chance to Draw a 4th time!!!! PROOF THE SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK!!! Everyone is encouraged to call or email the Licensing dept. at [email protected] or call 360-902-2453 ASAP!!

How about leaving them alone so they can get the drawing completed and the results out ASAP? It's not going to do any good to complain. For those that went to their history and had a "Selected" for one of your permits, that was not official notification anyway so you should not have relied on it. Sure it's disappointing to think you have drawn and now you may not, but the WDFW never told you that you drew that permit, so you really should not be mad at them. They do have until July 31 to notify people of the results.

Were did you see it saying not official notification? My History for the last 10 years is all accurate? Besides July 31st is to late for those who would like to hunt the August 1st opener for the Hanford herd! They just need to get things straight before they post anything! Calling isn't going to hurt a thing. Besides the person I talked to was thankful for the suggestions and welcomed any and all others. In the end all we want is for it to be fair for all!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-18-07 AT 11:13AM (MST)[p]The site we were all going to is not the WDFW's site. When the results are posted they will be here:

http://wdfw.wa.gov/cgi-bin/shp_tmp/permit.cgi

But of course right now all you get if you go there is the 2006 results.

I realize July 31 is late especially if your hunt starts in August, but that is the date given in the regulations. Go ahead and call, I'm just saying that they are already aware that people would like to be notified of the results ASAP, and I am sure they are doing what they can to get it done.

>The WA point system
>doesn't work anyways; the lucky

This seems ridiculous. I guess the state lotto doesn't work because only the lucky people win...? It's fair, everyone gets a shot. With your preference points, you get a better shot. Seems as fair as possible...

Wow. I doubt your friend has drawn 3 mountain goat permits. It is a lifetime hunt... There are so many variables that I think you are disregarding. Look at the draw odds for units and species. Some give you much better chances of drawing. If you have been applying for Mt. Goat for 25 years, and have not drawn, you are doing something wrong. Before the preference points, there were many units that were almost guaranteed draws. There were even left over permits for some areas!!! WA used to give out so many goat permits it was ridiculous. Perhaps you were applying for a hard to draw permit that whole time...but it seems you should have changed tactics if you really want to up your odds. Nowadays, it is hard to draw the goat permit. It's as fair as it could be.

If anything, my gripe (and maybe it should be yours) is that you can now apply without having to buy a license and for only about five dollars. This has increased the number of applicants. In the old days you had to pick your species to apply for and buy the license. It was better odds for us residents back then.

PopeShawnPaul,
Goat became once in a lifetime less than fifteen years ago or so. I know a guy that drew goat and killed one in the 90's and he is eligible to apply for another as his first goat tag was before they changed it to once in a lifetime. If you read the goat application regs it says something in there about being able to apply if you have not had a tag before a certain year, can't remember what year at the moment.
I wish that WA would get their act together and have the application period earlier and have results in May so we don't have to scramble if we do draw to plan hunts coming up in weeks instead of months. Maybe I should just move across the line into Idaho and forget the whole dang thing here in Washington.

Yes, he has drawn 3 times and is still eligible. He has all the old regs from back before the 90's and yes they used to give out about 300 permits a year! Before they went to a once in a lifetime permit; you could apply every year, then it went to a 5 year waiting period and now to a once in a lifetime! The only thing that is going wrong is our drawing system and the people who run it. I have also been left out of the draw when they used to do it out of a barrel back when you had to put your money up front. (I wish they would go back to the pay up front.) All they could say was sorry they missed several other people also and their was nothing they could do about it. Only in WA. I have been applying for over ten states for around 10 years now and have never run into any problems; Except for WA!!

I hope they can fix this really big mess up once and for all!!

The only fair way would be to do like Colorado does with all the tags going out to the people with the most points. Basically you put in your time and wait your turn so you can plan on a great hunt. I have been sending them my money for the last 11 years now!

The year was After 1999 or later. This was when you had a 5 year waiting period.

Results of special-hunt drawing delayed

The results of the drawing for 2007 special hunting permits are not available at this time, due to technical difficulties with the Department of Fish and Wildlife?s (WDFW) computerized licensing system.

WDFW will post the results on this website and contact successful applicants as soon as the drawing is completed and the results are verified.

A test drawing, conducted July 14, was never verified, because WDFW found that its licensing system failed to include bonus points for many applicants. WDFW is working with Outdoor Central, its licensing system vendor, to correct that problem before conducting a final drawing.

?Fairness is the key issue here,? said Larry Peck, WDFW deputy director. ?We need to make sure everyone gets all the bonus points coming to them. This is a two-step process: The drawing is not official until the results have been verified.?

Once that occurs, the department will immediately phone about 320 applicants for special hunts beginning Aug. 1 with the results, Peck said. Other applicants will be notified by mail, as described in WDFW?s Big Game Hunting Rules pamphlet.

I drew a goat rocks goat tag in 2000, the first year it went to once in a lifetime. The WDFW even tryed to give me a second tag that year. After I raced to Olympia and picked up my tag they called me afew days latter and told me if I didn't come get my goat tag they were going to give it to an alternate. I told them I had the tag, even gave them the tag # but they did'nt believe me. I ended up going back and showing it to them. To make a long story short they had no record of any moose goat or sheep tags that had been handed out at their office, only the ones that had been mailed out. So they have no idea how many moose goat or sheep tags went out in 2000. They looked a little pale when I pointed that out to them but they had no arguement for that. I'm not sure if they went ahead and issued tags to alternates taking the chance the tag had already been issued or what. So this is not their first debocalty.

Everyone has their own perspective on this issue. Personally, it is a good thing for myself and my 5 partners as we came up NADA for Deer,Elk and Moose and now we are still in the game and have a chance again so we are excited. I do feel for those that thought they had drawn a very special tag only to be disappointed by these happenings. Unless you are a conspiracy theory person and believe the drawings are rigged I can't see how the way the draw is weighted to points isn't a fair way to go. A newbie has one chance in each of four drawings if desired...if you have built up 10 points (as some people I know have) you have 100 chances in each draw you put in for. I feel sorry for people that build so many points but LUCK does come into play and a person needs to do their research on previous applicants and such to give yourself a better chance at having LUCK. All of the great hunts are going to have more people wanting tags in that unit. Good Luck to all in the new draw....I will live with the results and try again next year if it doesn't work for me this year........Les

Les,
you are right about the multiplier but it only applies to deer, elk and goat(5 points= 25 chances, 10 points= 100chances. the rest like the sheep and moose: if you have 10pts. your name goes in 10 times but so does everyone else that has 10. No multiplier is given for these draws. Who knows though with this state we may all be only going in only 1 time for the last 10 or so years!!!!

3337deer.....I can't find the different multiplier for Moose and Sheep in the gamelaws as you stated. What part did you find that information in? I have looked at the pamphlet and the web-site.....Thanks.....Les

Les, This was posted online a few years back. I can't seem to find it now. I will do some more checking and let you know.

Since last year, the mutilpier is now for all species.

I hammered away at the dept for not having this years ago. I believe somne guys from FNAWS kept the conversation going, and they finally caved in. Its a huge plus for guys that put in for moose and sheep hunts from day 1 before it was a 5.00 deal.

I head the new results will be out on Friday. My son was not drawn for anything and he is very lucky. I was drawn for an great East side bull tag. Now we redraw... I bet my son draws and I do not...

My son did not get drawn for anything in the first draw or the second. I lost my East side bull elk permit but I did get drawn for a moose permit. Selkirk mountains... All I have to do now is pray that no fire goes through the unit

>Awesome! That's better than any deer
>or elk permit any day!
>

That is my thoughts exactly...

Thats awesome for you! I drew a preliminary moose permit. Nada this go around. I hope you enjoy my moose permit. Kill a big one for me. I know where to look for that 50 incher! How many points did you have?

I had max points... Sorry about your moose permit. If I did get your permit I will do you good. If you have any knowledge of that unit I would accept it.

Jim

Jim,
Glad to here you had max points and congratulations again! I will dig up my maps and give you a couple of areas where the big boys hang out. Are far as best times to hunt a guy might try the opener and have a chance to call one in. But by the end of October after all the leaves fall off the vegetation; this is probably your best chance to see more. One of these big boys is hard to hunt because one day he maybe in Idaho and the next in WA.
