sons first deer

My 13 year old son arrowed his first deer this afternoon. Just a small doe but he sure is proud but not as proud as I am. He has rifle hunted the past couple years with no luck but wanted to bow hunt this year. He said he wasn't going to be picky for his first animal and with school and sports he only had evenings or weekends to hunt. We were just about to quit for the night about 15 minutes before shooting light was over when I spotted a nice blacktail buck a couple hundred yards away. We made a quick stalk and came to within about 40 yards from where he should have been. We looked through the brush and spotted some deer taking off but not the buck. We hurried and got ahead of them and waited. It was very thick with blackberries and underbrush. We spotted a large doe about 45 yards away through some thick brush but no shot. All of a sudden in the thick brush right in front of us we saw gray and a doe appeared about ten yards away. I asked him if he wanted to take her and he said yes. I whistled and she stopped about 15 yards away. My son quickly made the shot and she took off but only about 15 yards and she was down. It was his first deer and with a bow to boot, it was pretty cool.
I don't have any decent pictures yet but it was just a very small blacktail doe.

We would still love to see the pics, it is not the quality of the critter but the quality of the experience. In my book the quality of this experience has to rate right at the top. Tell him GOOD JOB.

Thanks guys for the comments. Yes I am very proud of him. He worked hard to be confident with his shot and he proved it the other day.
Littlefoot, thanks for the info in your area you gave me a couple weeks ago but as you can see we do not need it anymore as he filled his tag locally.
