My step daughter is a junior in high school. If she decides to leave the state for college does she loose her resident hunting rights in oregon? Here is an example... we live in eastern oregon, lets say she gets a volleyball scholarship to a school in idaho. She leaves to idaho during school, comes back home during summer. I understand she cant hold 2 resident licenses in 2 different states. But because of leaving the state does she forfeit her residency for hunting? I am sure some of you must have experienced this situation. Thanks for any info.

I got a resident tag my fresh yr of college in my home state....after that I paid non res fees. When I applied for the tag I was still at home. Whether I did it the legal way or not I don't know. But it seemed right at the time 30yrs ago.

Your child is declared as a dependant on your IRS returns. Other than going to school out of state, she still has an Oregon drivers license and lives at home while not in school, she should still be considered an Oregon resident.
Now if she has declared Idaho as her personal residence and now has a Idaho drivers license in order to get Idaho residence college fees, it would be a mute point!!

I think you can choose which state you want to be in. Notice I said "Think". I have had my kids do college in Idaho and they moved their residency to Idaho. One thing to consider is the Lifetime License you can get in Idaho. It used to be well worth it. Now days we drive through Idaho and pick up one of my sons and keep on going over to Wyoming. But we still have our lifetime license to put in annually for the premium draws.

Yeah I understand the lifetime lic benefit, I am a holder of one. It is a pretty sweet deal.
