Central / East Varmit Hunting?

Unfortunatley I'm not going to make it over to Baltz's varmit / cat hunt camp and group get together this year but maybe next year.

Here's the deal, after eating tag soup hunting the west side last year during archery (deer & elk) season I'm itching to kill something. I've been researching a mtn lion hunt (out of state) but haven't booked anything to look forward to yet. I'd really like to find someplace to do some varmit hunting this spring. I know there are plenty of ranchers who would like the coyote population taken care of, and who have some sage rats to kill once it warms up but I just don't know any of them personally. I'm hoping to get a lead from someone who knows a rancher/farmer that would allow access to their property for me and my teenage son to do some varmit hunting. I don't mind knocking on doors and introducing myself but would prefer not to make the drive over without some prospects in advance. I live west of Portland (Forest Grove) and would prefer something 3-4 hours away but am willing to go further east if that's where the opportunity lies.

I'm a responsible hunter and would pick up after myself, leave it better than I found it. If anyone has any contacts in Central OR, Burns, NE Oregon, or elsewhere that they wouldn't mind sharing I'd sure appreciate it. I'll also do some checking and talking to folks at the Sportsman Show this week while I'm there. If there's a resource someplace, website or otherwise, with contact info so ranchers I'm also willing to do some cold calling. Thanks in advance guys.

I know that many of the ranchers and hay farmers in Harney, Lake and Malheur Counties sell out the hunting rights to their pivots to a few "rat guides". Cold calling may work on the occasional rancher but many of the ranchers have given exclusive rights out already and can't give access according to their contract. I'll send you a pm with some info on something that may work for you.

Are you successful(experienced) at calling in and killing coyotes or are you just looking for a place to try it?
