X7B and X8

Can anyone give me any insight on these units? How do these two units compare to X12? I know there are a lot less tags allotted for X7B and X8. Is this because there are less deer or is it more of a premium area? Thanks in advance for the info.

I may not be able to do any out of state hunts in 2014 so I think I may look into burning my max points in Cali. :(

Cancer doesn't discriminate...don't take your good health for granted because it can be gone in a heartbeat. Please go back and read the last line. This time really understand what it says.

I was in the same boat and getting frustrated with not drawing. I almost did the same as your talking about and just blowing out my points but I didn't. I kept up and finally drew my muzzy tag this year. It was an awesome hunt and I'm glad I held out. Be wise with how you spend those max points. When they're gone they're gone.

Steve, If you have those kind of points, you probably could draw X5-A. Maybe not as good as 5-B but close and a bit easier to draw. I know the zone well and could help you. Some Dandy bucks in not too tough a country!!

I would give m-3 a try its actually getting to the point where you have a good chance with max points, unlike g-3 where its still a long shot.

6X7, Good point! +1, I've not hunted the area especially in the late season but the reports are pretty darn good!!

Don't burn max points on these two, they are both good units that afford fun hunts if you want to get away from crowds and have 4 points or so to burn. X 8 is 1/3 of the herd size it once was. Lions are really tough down low on winter grounds on them. I would be happy to point you in some areas if you decide to draw them though. This one came from X7 b but that herd is way down also.

My son drew X7B for this October 1-16th and we are starting our research of the area. Hoping to connect with you and see what you think? We need a plan of where to go and how to maximize success.

We scouted the area last weekend and saw quite a few doe, a few spikes and one monster.

My email is [email protected].

Matthew (my son) and I would appreciate any advice about our upcoming hunt.

Thank you for considering,

Greg Alburn

What Sage and 6x7 said...
I burned my points as a party to take my buddy and his son. I scored on a nice 4x4.
There are loads of roads and it gets lots of attention. I would look on the east slope of Boca ridge, the ridge to the north of stampede Reservoir, or around Floristan if you want to see some better bucks, as they are steep, brushy and nasty which most people aren't willing to put the effort into getting into or back out of. If you just want to see lots of dinks and does hang around the reservoirs early and late.
We saw bucks everyday but I just could not find the 28-30 incher I saw while scouting.
Good luck,
john
