Hey Sage, here's another Kali one. Had a friend quite a few years ago archery hunting pigs and no sidearm. He shot the big Russian boar, then it charged him.
He ran for the nearest tree. BUT didn't make it before the boar tusks got him in the leg....... That boar kept charging the tree trying to knock the Hunter out of the tree. WOW... so his bow and arrows were at the base of the tree along with the boar. He was hurt but luckily not bleeding badly. After he didn't show up back at camp. Guys he was hunting with knew the general area of his days hunt. They went looking for him, found him up in the tree and shot that boar with a 30/06.
This was back when you could still find a lot of real Russian Boars not mixed in with the fearel hogs. They have interbred so much now it is hard to find a real boar. This guy was in the hospital a week, surgery on liggements and lost six months work.
Another one, two years ago in Sonoma County, guy on public land was after an old knarley critter. The boss of the area, seen many times by the locals. The Hunter was rifle hunting. Spotted and shot that bad boy. What the Hunter didn't realize was that he just pissed that big boar off because the Hunter didn't know where he needed to hit that boar in the vitals. That big boar being up hill couple hundred yards away charged the Hunter. Guy dropped that big Boar at his feet with the last shot in his rifle.....
Lots of guys make bad shots on pigs because they don't do there homework and know where the vitals are on a pig.
NOTE: the vitals on a pig are forward in line with the front shoulders, any hit farther back on a broadside shot you will be chasing them forever rifle or bow or there going to be chasing you.
Moral of the story......if your going to go hunt real boars with a bow, You better be pack'n something with some punch as a back up plan.
