My son loves reptiles and seems intent on catching a banded gecko. We may come to S. Cal some time next spring, but have no idea where to look to find them. Obviously they are a desert lizard, but can anyone describe the type of terrain/habitat we ought to search? The deserts is a big place to search blindly in the dark...

Alternatively, if any MM member finds them regularly around their place and would be willing to send us one, then I would be happy to pick up the shipping costs. I understand that I cannot pay for the lizard, but I think that paying the shipping would be legal...?

Thanks for humoring me on this one.

Not say you kid can't have one ..try using a small flash light to attract bugs use a damp paper towel to cut light.he will turn up..google them to..
I know there cool pets and you can buy them pretty cheap..in California their protected like rattle snakes, frogs, tarantulas and tortoises..
Good luck

Rattle snakes protected! Ha that's a classic example of don't belive everything you read on the internet especially from a hardboner.

Laws states that you can take two western banded geckos how ever you need a sport fishing license. .
I had been misinformed..
No need for name calling..6" or 7" insideya!!

I caught a few in Palm Springs when I was a kid. They are nocturnal. Caught some at night crawling around my parents
house, others were caught during the day lifting up large rocks and other things they could hide under. Cute little buggers!
