He's no monster but still a fun hunt.

I applied for this same unit, mind me asking how many points you had ? I imagine max ? I'm one shy of max and curious how many years it will take for me to draw .

Wow so I got a while , please post a story and pics of your hunt ! Would love to hear how you do good luck

I also finally have a Surprise Valley tag after max pts & 15 or so attempts prior to the point system. I think it will be a fun hunt. A buddies daughter drew Likely Table junior hunt in her first attempt.....go figure.

Best of luck to you!

Can't remember exactly but these will be close-
081 deer-we ended up going guides draw and we each had about 10.
065 Antelope-11-12
076-081 elk- 14 and alternate
Bear- Belive it was their 4th season.Got a Nevada buckle with this one.
Nevada has also been generous with the quality of animals and the people at Ndow have been great! .

Have a buddy who drew a Likely tables tag on the random draw, going to be up there helping him out, plan on getting some scouting time in pretty quick. Heading back into the same area I took my buck in last year, to look around. Good luck to all with tags.

BradA,
Drawing a CA antelope tag w/o max points has crap odds.

I drew in 2003 or 2004, but this was before the point system.
Back then they had a 10yr waiting period, which applied to me, so the very first year of the point system, I wasn't even allowed to apply, since it was the tail end of the waiting period.

Nothing from stopping me from applying for a random tag, but given the odds, I'm better off using the $ to buy a lotter ticket instead (well not really...)

If you want to get a tag, your best bet is outside of CA, probably WY.

Yeah it sucks but I'm shy one point of max and I'm young enough I believe I will draw in my time . So I will continue to apply but take your advice as well as applying in Wyoming for pronghorn

Max point pool will clear out in 5 years as long as everybody with max spreads out over all the hunts

That is good to know I hope that it works out that way then I will be sitting on max and have to wait through the equal point holders

I was in the same situation so I didn't apply the first year points were offered. After the application date passed, I learned they dropped the 10 year waiting period so we could have applied after all. I was so put off, I've never applied after that. I already drew twice before that so it's fine.

Should be excellent horn growth this year.

I'm in kind of the same boat as Eel. I drew in 1987, waited my ten years and drew again in 1998. A few years in to second ten year waiting period they started the point system. A few years later eliminated waiting period, leaving me a few below max. I can't complain though having hunted CA twice for antelope already. I do feel bad for my kids who will never draw, coming in at 20-25 points below max.

Wow, some of you guys were real lucky to draw a tag twice!
Thinking back, I actually drew it in '90's!

Good luck to those hunting this year.

Stuart

LAST EDITED ON Jul-28-17 AT 02:26PM (MST)[p]I drew two Antelope tags 5 years apart. And two of my daughters have drawn also so the draw had been pretty good to my family. Also my father in law drew too. And that's in the last 12 years.

Drew a Cali antelope tag, probably the only one I will ever draw, a few years back. Was worth the wait. I have hunted antelope all over the west and took my best in Cali, oh to have that tag every year. I would almost give up all other hunting for it. Save me a ton of driving and money in tag apps.

Hopefully they make some head way with those fires. If not they may decide to give hunters the option of keeping their tags or returning them back in.
