"New to Nevada hunting"

Hi everyone,

My parents just moved to Elko, and since I'm next door in Utah I went ahead and purchased my Nevada hunting/fishing license and all the stamps. I plan to hunt upland game only in the state.

I'm curious as to what kind of upland game I can find in Elko County. I'm not asking for your spots, but rather, what species of upland game seem to be prevalent in the area. Thanks!

BE CAREFUL!!!

Chukar hunting is as addictive as heroin. It's been said 1,000s of times, " your first chukar hunt is for fun, after that it's for revenge."

That's why I was out last weekend stomping eggs in the nest. j/k.

Chasing chukar is my passion.

PM me if you want some pointers/starting points.

BUT IMO a dog is a must.

I replied to your PM.

But my thoughts on birds dogs.

Training is for obedience. Just follow your dog. If he/she has the instincts, they'll find birds and learn on each encounter.

I've had some great dogs but I take very little credits for them. They learned mostly on their own.

The "secret" is to get them out often.

There are alot of Chukar in the rubies. I see them every year while deer hunting. Also if you are a duck hunter some of the best duck hunting in Nevada is at the base of the rubies in the wildlife management area right there. Go to ndows site and check it out. The rubies have a little bit of everything and beautiful country

That's great to know! I am a duck hunter, but wasn't sure how much duck hunting was available out that way.
