Lots of jackrabbits and cottontails up on Peavine this year, they are everywhere! Just watch the congested areas for shooting legality, there are maps at all the major trail heads.

Chukar will be a little further, an hour or two drive. Once you get to Lovelock just pick a mountain and there should be chukar in it.

Dove and Blue Grouse season starts on Sept 1, you can find those very close to Reno as well.

Good luck and have fun!

Yep, it's the big mountain right in the north east of town, can't miss it, you can see it from anywhere in town. Best access is either through Verdi or Stead, like I said, watch for congested signs, a lot of people use the mountain for running, biking, hiking etc.

If you want to get more away from people you can head out towards Pyramid Lake, don't bunny blast on the rez but you can get out in the mountains around winnemucca ranch road and be away from people relatively close to town.
