Restoration of Antelope Horns

Looking for any advice on getting the sheaths mounted to the skull. The horns are chewed up pretty bad around the bases and would only guess that the lower 1/3 of the horns would need to be restored to some degree. The horns are not big but they have sentimental value and I want to get a euro mount done. I'd be willing to ship to a taxidermist for this request if this is work you are accustom to doing? can send pictures too if you are interested in helping me out.

Thanks? send an e-mail if interested in this type of work.

I know of a taxidermist located in Cimarron, NM that does great repairs on horns. I killed an oryx in NM a few years back that had about 20" broken on the left side. Sent it to him and he did a cast of the non broken side and fixed up the broken side with the replica of the good side. He does great work on horn repairs and I think he may be able to help you out. Check him out "WildCountry Taxidermy" Owner: Louie Whitten

I would think it wouldn't be too terribly hard to use something like epoxy=sculp to add the missing area back to the horn bases. Then use an airbrush to paint them. I would think any taxidermist ought to be able to do this....or you could do it yourself. You may be able to do a youtube search or possibly find something on taxidermy.net that shows the process.

Most taxidermist should be able to do this for you. I definitely can, or you can take a stab at doing it yourself cause it is not hard at all. Get some of the apoxie sculpt, I would get it in a brown color too. Recreate the missing horn and then paint it with acrylics. You could also cast it like one of the others posted but for what little it sounds like you would have to do I don't think it would be worth it. Here is a picture of one I have done. Sorry not the best picture.
