There is tailchaser but when you have S.F.W. leaders on the wildlife board anything goes they cant be stopped!

Whats the difference between Cali and Utah? Utah is trying to ban hunting faster than Cali by killing all their animals while Cali is letting the lions do it.

For what it's worth, per the DWR audit done by Greg Sheehan, SCI gave almost 98% of their Con. tag revenue directly back to the UDWR last year.

All I can say is thank god they didn't have enough insiders to rape Arizona too. As to Utah........just want to burn my 15 deer points that I started saving pre-SFW and get the hell out of their game. Horrible.

I really believe that conservation tags have their place. In order to really get things done, the average sportsman can't afford the price tag. Especially in this economy. The big dollar tags (as long as the revenue generated goes directly back to the DWR) can do things that you and I can't possibly do. I would fully support the reduction in the numbers of these tags and the DWR taking them over and holding their own auctions. There is no way they couldn't come out money ahead. I know a lot of guys that would donate their time to put on a DWR banquet. Why the hell not! Very similar to taking out the "middle man". Just a thought but it's one that CSO mentioned in the mule deer forum. Great start to an ever increasing problem.

I don't have a problem with the DWR selling the tags direct as long as the money goes directly back into big game. I don't want to see those dollars spent on fishing, or studies on the stripped ass desert tortious, or songbird habitat restoration.

Does the WB have anything to do with these tags or are you guys just trying to throw them under the bus again on something the DWR has control of?

Who would support an increase in tag cost if the tags were put back into the draw to make up for the lost revenue?

Personally I think that there are a few to many tags given out. However I feel overall they are a necessary evil in funding the DWR. True fix.....talk your legislator into funding the DWR out of the general fund. Have zero of their budget tied to tag sales of any kind. That will fix a whole mess of problems. IMO.

Conservation tags go through the WB process. They discussed them at length the last bucks and bulls meeting in December. It's a good listen and very informative.

Just a few thoughts concerning the DWR. I have family that have been employed with the DWR for over 30 years.

Not all past DWR dirrectors have been focused on maintaining or improving big game populations.

A percentage of our hunting license money used to be used for non game animals.

Some DWR employees are great advocates for wildlife and big game hunting, some are the opposite.

There are advantages of having conservation groups involved in politics. We have a pro hunting DWR leadership who are trying to make good decisions for wildlife and hunting for the most part.

It all goes into the general fund and the DWR gets an alottment of money just like the state road or any other part of State Government. Raising the cost of tags does not put money into the DWR.

You are right, I was wrong. The money generated from the sales of licencies goes into a fund to run the DWR up to the budget that the state legislators have set for the DWR. The remainder goes into a rainy day fund. The wording is::

I will admit I was wrong and I did not understand all if the details. I just knew that the DWR had to ask the Legislators for money and that the state Legistators were the ones that set the budget money for the DWR as to how much money that they they have to use. So in reality the state still gives the DWR a budget to work with.

That is shocking. I hope you get a complete accounting from SFW on all of those tags and where the money has been spent. They may be too deep in your system to ever root them out but I would start writing legislators with data exposing the whoring of the public's game animals and get a bunch of them to demand an accounting. I am sure Peay hasn't compromised every state politician yet although it sounds like your WB may be stacked. Good luck and don't just roll over. Time to stand and fight.

More or less. The division requests funding (That comes from their own pockets) from the Appropriations committee, the committee then takes their recommendation to the legislature for approval.

Tagalong, so would I. From what I have heard, SFW has all but conceded that the millions of dollars they have spent on habitat improvement and restoration projects have not helped Utah's deer herds. Now, SFW has determined that it is time to shift focus and ramp up on predator control--primarily coyotes. Perhaps someone who attended one of SFW's recent meetings can further elaborate. Personally, I view this as merely a response to the growing criticism from the public that SFW and the other conservations groups are taking hundreds of tags a year from the public draw and raising millions of dollars but we are not seeing any actual improvement in deer numbers. That seems like a logical concern/question to me.

I also did not realize just how many tags there were. I don't really have a dog in this fight since I'm a non resident. I don't even know if any of those tags are taken from that pool. Either way, I can smell the stink from this situation all the way up here by the Great Lakes...unless that rotting cheese from the way the Packers played.

I sincerely hope Utah can get restructured and get some of those tags back to where they belong.

To answer that question...Yes, SFW has put the boots to the non-ressy as well. A large portion of the 200 tags came from the non-res quota. Also, the non-ressy sheep quota did not increase in over a decade due to tha allotment of sheep tags given to the auction tags.

I couldn't help but notice that SCI put 98% back. They kept 2%? Anyone have a dollar figure on what that equals? Do we really need middle men to do this. I mean could all these tags(UNFREAKINGBELIEVABLE) not just be put on Ebay or a similar auction site and the DWR keep everything?

I drew the late Manti tag a few years back. In a week we ran across 3 other hunters, all 3 with cons/expo tags, now I know why.
I don't know about you guys, but at my job they are constantly cutting out middle men(salemen), perhaps the state should try this.

I knew it was disgusting, but until you see it in writing you don't realize just how bad it is.
