Just found out after all these years of applying I drew my goodale buck tag. So excited to say the least. Looking for any info from the experts on the zone. Campsites? Hotels? Proven areas? Will be order topo maps and doing as much research as possible. Anyone know of a biologist in the area to talk to as well? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Can't wait to try to down a big CA buck

Hunted it two years ago. Here are few things two think about

1. Honestly how much time are you going to have to hunt. This is very important

2. Its not necessarily a zone you have to scout but if you could take a couple trips starting around Thanksgiving it will help you get a feel of the area and deer.

3. Are you a truck hunter or mountain man. Be honest with yourself here. You can take a nice buck out of any drainage in the zone but being able to get off the path will help

4. What is your goal for the hunt. What do you want to hang your tag on

5. This zone is snow dependent. No snow, no big deer for the most part

When I hunted it two years ago it never snowed. I saw lots of bucks but mostly nothing I would call a big deer. I saw a few that were ok but nothing to get the heart racing. Doesnt mean they are not there but with no snow it makes it hard. I really wish I could do the hunt over again knowing what I know now. But hopefully I can help you not make the same mistakes. All in all it was a very fun hunt. I was able to get a nice heavy 4*4 and but a friend on another wide 4*4. It was the 1st deer and probably last deer I will shoot with both my dad and son there to experience it. Based on the last few years I would say you are looking at a top end of 160-180 class deer. with the 170's and up very very hard to find.
