So your saying there is a chance !

Imagine how bad the odds would be if there were as many people there as they claim!!! I mean, what did they claim last year, 25,000??? But even the best tag has only 10,000 apps? Why not apply? Or was there only 10,000 people there? LOL I am sure we will have people explain that one to us.

Odds may be poor, but you can't draw if you don't enter. If you don't enter, your chances are zero.

It's now been 5 years since I drew my Pauns expo tag. I think it's time I draw another.

The odds suck. We all know it. I've drawn. I (we all) know multiple people personally that draw every year. We all spend $5-$100 on much dumber things.

SFW, tag allotments, etc, etc, etc notwithstanding (please no, let's just leave it alone) may was well enter and give it a try. Hunting is pretty fun especially with a good tag.

And we all spend $5-$100 on much smarter things too, which is what I prefer to do, thanks.

Since I already drew a tag in the past I feel obligated to at least spend a little every year. I chalk it up to the same as the Sportsman's Tags. Any chance at a Henry's deer is worth that small cost.

Question:

https://huntexpo.com/odds-at-drawing-an-expo-tag/

The report states that there were:

Bison Non-Resident Only Henry Mtns ? Hunters Choice (late) (non-resident only) Once-in-a-lifetime 1113 1

There were 1113 APPLICANTS for one tag - does that mean there were 1113 unique applicants and that each applicant may have submitted several applications - so if each APPLICANT submitted 10 applications your odds would be 1:11,113

If that is applications I could spend $5,000 and have a decent chance of drawing?

For some unknown reason I didn't get an invite. Who they got performing this year?

We all know that's the real reason RMEF failed. They couldn't pull a early 80' s country singer.

huh???....if everyone put in 10 apps....the odds wouldn't change

10:11,130 is the same as 1:1113

For folks that hate a bonus/preference point system and want a random draw, for Utah, this is your opportunity. Straight up random.

For those folks that don't think it's fair that Non-Residents can apply for all species every year, not just one of the Once in A Lifetime species. this is your opportunnity. You can apply for all once in a lifetime species.

For those don't like raffles because some people can afford to buy dozens of raffle ticket, this raffle is limited to one chance per person, no one gets an advantage by being able to buy extra chances. Your odds are the same as some one with limitless dollars.

For those that can want to save a few dollars, these chances cost $5 each, it costs &10 each to apply for the General State application hunting tags process.

For those who hate to wait months and months to know if you drew a tag, the successful applicants are notified with in about a week or 10 days.

For those who have drawn a once in a lifetime species in the General State system, you are allow a second tag, if your name is drawn for that species, at this random draw.

For those folks that don't care for trade shows, dinners, auctions, etc. you apply for these random draw tags without paying to go into the Expo Exibtions or to any of the many other venues that are taking place, you simply walk into the foyer, fill out the application form, check the boxes you want to apply for, $5 or more depending on how many of them you want a chance for, go over to one of many cashiers, pay with cash or credit card and leave. No more hassle than going to your bank to make a deposite or withdrawal. If you don't go at the being of the day, when everyone shows up to get into the Exposition, you can be in and out in 10 to 15 minutes.

For those folks that don't like high odds, check the odds sheet posted on the original post here, and apply for a tag with better odds than the Henries or the Pauns, if you are an archer, there are some pretty reasonable odds tags.

I could be wrong but I believe some State raffles, in other States, are as high or higher, in some cases.

Some folks have strong negative feelings about raffles in general or have negative feelings about raffling wildlife hunting tags, or negative feelings toward the host organization of the raffle or negative feelings toward individuals who are involved in hosting the rafflle, I understand you, standing by your principles, I respect you, Lord knows I have my negatives and my principles I that I honor as well. For the many thousands who see the Expo and the big game raffles as a positive hunting:fishing conservation opportunity, like I do, we are looking forward to another very enjoyable week at the Expo.

Those who oppose it, you certainly have every right to state your reasons way and encourage others to support your position, of course those of us who think it's a great program and a positive conservation revenue producing effort, we'll continue to encourage others to join with us, at this years Expo.

Lumpy.

What about the guys who oppose a special interest group sucking up millions of dollars in tag welfare? Is there an expo for us?

If you support it, your choice. But doing so, then airing any complaint about lack of tags, unseccessful draw results, BGF getting wolf dollars, just remember, you voted with your dollars, and buying expo tags was your vote. You can't support the expo, then complain about any of the above. above. Your presence is counted by $fw as "supporting" $fw. And when they want something, that number is used in their lobbying to the state.

We seem to think we think like the majority and our views are how most people think......... the opposite is true. Most don't have an opinion and most don't want to ever hear about it.

Not from you and not from me.

Hoss- yes there is an expo for you. It's called the Big Outdoor Show. I think it's in March or you can hit ISE probably around that same time. Tell your friends, make it a boys trip. Have fun and enjoy the day out. Good luck on your hunts this year. Hope you guys get the big one!

You can Apply Online!

But You Must Show up in person at the EXPO to Validate your Application!

We have supported Tony show since he started it. Not sure he could pull a johnny lee or Tanya tucker to really pull in the big money.?

"if you are an archer, there are some pretty reasonable odds tags."

This comment made me curious to look it up and by my math even the Turkey permit odds are less than 1% chance of drawing.

Best Odds 2017:

Turkey Southeastern Region Public Lands
Applicants 255
Permits 2
0.7843% Probability of drawing

Worst Odds 2017:

Buck Deer Henry Mtns Premium Limited Entry Premium Any Weapon Applicants 10108
Permits 1
0.0099% Probability of drawing

Chip and a chair though.

2Lumpy, I think the Expo draw might be a good way for Bobcat to finally get that San Juan Elk tag he's been after! LOL!

Or perhaps they choose not to be "hammered" or labeled as "whiners", "clowns", "doe killers", "pisscutter" killers, "takers", "non-hunters", or any other names that seem to come up AND they certainly don't care to be cursed with a wish from someone that the worst things would happen to them if they dared to think differently or express their opinion on this forum.
Or maybe they wouldn't like their opinions or posts being misinterpreted or misconstrued to mean something other than what they said. Or maybe they prefer not to get into a shouting match with someone who doesn't bother to do enough homework to back up their claim or with someone who has decided not to agree with ANYONE who thinks differently than they do.

Well...... winning a San Juan Elk hunt at the Expo is the only way you or I will ever know when the ole BobCat has an LE elk tag Joe. That I can promise you. As it should be, if that's his decision. ;-)

Are you still thinking about heading over?

Thanks Guys!

But With them kind of Odds I Feel Lucky!:D

Just Hoping somebody We know gets a Tag!

And No!

I don't wanna here about the Guy/Gal that Draws 2-3 Tags in one year!:D

Not sure Lumpy. Mrs. Sikora has a new position at work, so not looking good this year.
