Yall ever used a mini bike or offroad go cart for hunting? Im curious. I was thinking about using some sort of mini bike like the coleman one or some sort of cheap of road go cart to get to and from the stand. I cant afford a truck or any serious off road vehicle. I cant afford anything over 500. Sad I know, but college budget.

I think your feet maybe your best transportation ! More reliable then having to carry that cheep scooter home. Get a good pack and go .

All them new mini bikes and go carts I see are way over 500.00...you are out of lucky buddy...(where's the dumb and dumber video of Floyd and Lloyd going to aspen?)

A bicycle has saved a few hunters time and foot wear. A couple of the more trustworthy vehicles I've ever had were a 68 F100 and a 72 Scout. Paid $400 each for them. Beater trucks can be a real project, so you want to look them over. Brakes, u-joints, etc. are easy fixes. Front end work an be a real PIA, especially ball joints; and you need to figure a front end alignment into the formula.

Sometimes you luck out with what you're looking for.

It sounds like you are a poor college student. A mtn bike may be just the ticket...and you can use it around town? We used a mtn bike last year on my son's bighorn sheep hunt. Hooked up a bike trailer to it and saved around 5 miles of hiking (each way). I got the idea from a few guys in Alaska that used mtn bikes plus a trailer to access remote areas that were off limits to motorized vehicles. A mtn bike is also likely a lot quieter than most motorized bikes, motorcycles, etc.

If you hunt areas where dirt bikes are legal....that may be another option. I picked up a Honda 250 quite a few years ago that works great on old mining roads, trails, and 2 track roads....where legal. A 4 wheeler is often a lot rougher and slower than a dirt bike. You may also be able to get into a lot rougher areas with a dirt bike?

The cost of a hunt varies greatly, depending where you live and what you think you need to hunt. I hunted pretty cheap in college. It got more expensive as I started accumulating things over the years. Back to pretty inexpensive again. I live 8 miles from where I deer and elk hunt, so fuel and other travel expenses are low. For those that have to travel far, it can get pricey quick.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-18-18 AT 09:47PM (MST)[p]I have (3) 2wd utility ATVs. They will more places than a stock 4x4 PU will. I don't drive em in the snow of mud....much. I paid $900 for the cheapest one. They are all in good shape.

A motorcycle will go more places than an ATV and is harder to ride, and easier to fall off of. I knew a guy that used to hunt off a bigwheel Yamaha. They are a 200, I think, and rare. He said that he used to put ? on it. Not sure, 1/4 or half on it.

I also know a guy that hunts w/a standard enduro. You can get one of those for $500.
As an example, here are 2...but I think you could get one cheaper.

Bicycles...You can cover great distances horizontally, or you can get back to camp in about 10 minutes. I never hunted on one, but I had one prepped to do it. That said, the rack made it very ungainly.

As mentioned, once you get to where you are going...boots. Get away from the trail.

Also, you can get an older 4x4 for 1000 bucks...but if you can't work on it yourself....tis not a good idea.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-20-18 AT 07:17AM (MST)[p] my Dad bought a Blazer (tote Gote) in 1967 and used it for hunting all my life. For about 10-12 years I have rebuilt tote gotes and blazers and used them for hunting. If you find them used you can get them for$100-$300. you can buy clutches from $35 to $150 depending on what you want. WE haul out Deer and Drag out Elk with them fine. If someone who knows how to post vids and pic on here could show me, id post a vid or 2 and pics. I currently have 7 running gotes and would guess you could do it yourself for the $500 you list as your price.BTW my dads Gote is on its 3rd motor now and iv rebuilt the trans 2 times. Still a runner.
