South Africa Bow Hunt

My son and I just spent 10 days on a bow hunt in South Africa with Shannon & Nick at Bushmen Safaris. My son Josh has never hunted but wanted to photograph and video my hunt which he did very well. After 9 days of hunting Nick took Josh aside and taught him how to shoot his crossbow. He then offered to let Josh shoot an Impala of his choice at no charge! Josh took him up on his offer and made a perfect shot on an Impala later that day. That was a special moment for me to see my son take his first animal. My earlier successes paled in comparison to Josh taking that Impala that morning. Nick has been a PH for many years and has many stories of close calls with lions, buffalo and elephants. You know, a tough PH with guts and big brass balls. But the thing I'll remember Nick the most for is his softer side and the kindness he showed my son that Saturday morning while teaching him and later while recovering his Impala. We had a fantastic trip. I was able to take a nice Kudu, an Eland, an Impala, a Grey Duiker, a Black Widebeast and a Jackal.
The ranch was awesome, the food was delicious, the people were fantastic and the animals were plentiful. Josh photographed over 33 species of critters. My next trip over I'll be targeting Nyala, a bull Black Wildebeast and hopefully a Bushbuck.
