"Bookcliffs Muzzloader"

I put in for this tag with 15 points as a non resident (from Maine), so I feel good about my chances of drawing.

Having never hunted this area was wondering if anyone had any advice as to how to hunt it? Are the deer mostly high that time of year or are they dispersed all over the unit? We are considering hunting the southern portion, closer to the Colorado border, but didn't know weather we were better off in the north unit or the south?

Any advice would be appreciated, not looking for specific spots, just general advice from anyone who spends time in the unit, especially if they've hunted it during the muzzy season the last couple of years. Feel free to send PM if you prefer.

Thanks,
Jody

If nothing changes you will draw, stay high lots of big country.Spend a lot of time glassing and you will find a nice buck.Real thick oakbrush in spots, but there is deer in every draw if you have the patience to glass them up. Good luck on the draw.

Those Bookcliff deer generally like to start migrating
a little before, or during the muzzy hunt.

They definitely move, and cover alot of ground.!

Thanks for the reply's, just have to wait for the drawing and hope for the best. It'll be nice just to try a new area and with the points it takes to draw these days, this will most likely be the only time I get to try the Book Cliffs since I'm 53.

I still enjoy hiking and like to get in off the roads, I've always found that if you get back in a couple of miles in most units you leave behind most of the other hunters.

I'm sure you already know this but check with the game warden and Biologists in the unit to find out key areas

Good luck and post your pics of that Monster Muley this fall

Also, please send me a PM and I can give you some more precise direction as to where to start...
