"6pp WY Mule Deer. Any Tips?"

Some buddies and I have banked 6pp for this year. I was wondering about any areas that would offer a good Diy hunt. I keep hearing general g is good but seems like a guide may be needed to really hunt that higher country. I think I would rather stay more east or southeast. Rolling hill country would be more attractive. We are not looking for a 200 incher just a fun hunt for decent bucks. Any tips would be awesome!

6 points is a lot to throw at a general unit I would think. In not sure about the easterly part of the state but you could look into a K region tag. Probably take 2-4 points to draw.

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...

You could try to draw a G tag and hunt the lower part. It is a little less rugged. You would have to watch for the tag cuts. If the state of Wyoming cuts 200 tags from G like they have proposed, 6 points may not be enough. It would depend on how many drop out because of the bad winter.
If you decide to apply for K, I live in the area and could give you some ideas of where to start, but I would expect to see a lot of other hunters. If you just want to take a buck home, you could certainly accomplish that in K, but it probably won't have much age to it. K has really gone down hill in my opinion. Good Luck.

Look at 78, 80 and 81. Deer numbers are up. Lots of public ground to hunt. Some decent bucks have come out of these areas as of the last few years. 160 ish and up can be found, and bigger are there if hunted hard.

The Natrona unit 34 can be had in the special with 6 points normally.
That area wasn't hit as hard as others farther west. Terrain isn't horrible and it shows an almost 80% success rate on bucks.
Never been there, but it appears access is good also.
Central Wyoming has great deer habitat.

I have hunted in 34 and have seen a good many bucks. The vast majority were young deer with forked horns or three points a side. I can see why it has an 80% success rate and it has a bunch of BLM land. Good place for a meat hunt.
