Hey guys,
I hear that the Don Shaufler Collection was purchased. Anyone know who purchased the trophies? And are they part of a display somewhere?

Never heard of him. Did he have some good baseball cards?

In the 90s and early 2000s he owned many of the biggest typical and non-typical mule deer heads, including the non-typical world record. An amazing collection. But, as of late I hear that he sold most of them. Was curious if anyone knew the details.

In about 1989 He had several Mounts at the Deer EXPO at the Salt Palace!

Back in the early 80s or late 70s he bought some bone from me. I think his nickname was "shifty."

He sold his large collection about 20 years ago to Cabelas. At one time they had displayed at one of their stores in a "museum" type display. I can't remember what store, Hamburg maybe? I can't remember, there are so many... He bought a number of big heads since including the Broader buck, but I'm not sure if he sold them recently or not. I worked for him for a number of years, drooling over those big heads was something that never got old... but the pile of mule deer sheds that were as big or bigger than many hanging on the wall was even more impressive.

It's probably Kansas City. The mule deer museum there is a sight to behold. I believe the original Burris Buck is there.

Thanks HiMtnHntr. I used to make an effort to stop at their stores when I was near. They all run together after a while and I couldn't remember which store it was. Yes the museum is pretty awesome. Schaufler had his own "museum" where all the heads hung between shows, and just for storage. There was about 90 B&C heads hanging at any given time.

The Mule Deer Country exhibit at Kansas city's cabela s is truly magnificent! The Burris buck at the entrance is awesome and there are maybe a hundred or more trophy mounts in cool dioramas plus shoulder mounts and some sheds. I highly recommend everyone stop there when u get a chance.

I'd love to buy a pro photo book of the exhibit if they ever made one.

Also western Kansas (exit 76) has a "wildlife travel center," TA station, with a few nice muleys, some whitail beasts and some other things that is worth a look if you are driving by.
