Wow--- you got lucky !! If I remember right, this is the area right outside Alpine. My son drew that tag in 2009, we stayed in Alpine, could see the goats right from the motel in a big basin to east northeast of town. Lots of goats too, critical thing is timing there--- last 2 weeks of season in Oct , best hair & they winter there in that basin, per locals. In just 2 days, my son got his -- a 9 3/4 heavy billy, a real beauty. It made a fabulous mount !! Do not go in Sept--- crummy hair & HOT ! Also, my son got so lucky , his guide was a friend of ours that guides for sheep & goats every summer in Alaska & knows his business well. They hiked in & did recon the first day, went for the kill 2 nd day & got him at 267 yards with a 7 MM Rem Mag, one ##### kill, he stopped the bullet too. They brought all the meat out, plus head & cape too. My son, only 30, was wiped out. Guide-- just another day at the office. Those guys are just amazing! I sat in the truck all day-- I am 70 now with bum knees. You can rent horses in Alpine or close by I think. We drove to the base of that basin right out of Alpine using F S Roads, easy drive except in a few muddy holes, we used our 4 W D Ford F 150. Be glad to tell you anything I know/recall. A very smooth hunt, some snow flurries, cold temps up the mountainWe slept in a motel every night & ate at good restaurants too. All a really fun adventure you will enjoy if weather is good !
